Hi there, I'm Cleo from Rockport, Tx. I'd like to get a group to share fishing information. Where you fish, what you catch, your tackle and bait etc. The red in my pic was caught behind the harbor using a fish finder rig with a pin fish for bait

Hey Cleo. A group? What kinda group? A group from Rockport, or Texas, or the southwest, or how about nation wide? I guess I'm kinda confused. I thought that's what we do on the Stage.

Cleo you can start by putting your location in your profile so it shows up each post so the folks know where you are wanting to share from. As for sharing that is what we do here on the stage for general info, for local you got to mention where you are fishing.

Mornin' Cleo, welcome to the Forum, "We care and we share" is what it says down at the bottom of my post, and that is a true statement. Now, tell me exactly where you caught that red. You told me what you caught it on but where in Rockport did you catch it or was it some other place on the Gulf.

Ben Bragg and flyguy, that red was caught using 12# Barkley Big Game line on spinning reel and as I said the rig was a fish finder with a pin fish bait. Took about 20 min. to get it in the net. lol I caught it in the bay right behind Rockport Harbor.

Welcome to the stage Cleo. That's pretty much what we're all about, sharing information, from coast to coast, and overseas.

Hey Fly, visited a friend, even went to SPI but didn't have the means to go fishing. I was young and fishing for something else. Skunked. It was about 40 years ago when it was nothing more than a couple hotels and a restaurant. From what I hear it is very, very different.

It is really a unique little town with 2800 people, 70 bars and restaurants, and they all do well. Gods know how many condos, townhouses, hotels, motels, and whatever, but I don't. It was established in 1968, so you hit it when it was about ready to pop.

In the early '70's I was in college and it was THE Midwest's "spring break destination", our Ft. Lauderdale, as it were. Maybe half a dozen bars, at best, besides the South Padre Hotel...biggest gathering spot at the time. My Dad's cousin owned several of those 10-person per top & bottom rentals, that came with a box of linens/towels, a box of dishes & silverware, and a box of pots & pans....$360/6days ! Kinda doubt they still do THAT bargain !
We would go over the border to Matamoros and stock up on cheap tequila and whiskey, stop by a shrimp boat with a couple of laundry baskets to FILL with fresh caught fatties for $20/basket, stop by a roadside "truck farm" for corn and salad makings...feed all 10 of us fraternity brothers and ALL THE PRETTY GALS we could find, for a great evening of mingling with those Texas Belles from SMU & A&M.... good times on the cheap !

Kinda like the Branson, Mo. area, that I learned fly-fishing from my great-uncle on the White R..... from what I read (70+ bars on SPI !??) I believe I choose to never return to observe the "improvements". It would certainly taint my memories and simply depress me.

As an Eagle's song lyrics say...."Call someplace Paradise....kiss it GOODBYE !"
