Been married 50 years this year.
The second week we were married my wife needed oral surgery. Her father came by and offered to pay for it. No Dad I answered…I said I do….so I will.
The next week we ran into a man named Joe from her old neighborhood. She grew up in a neighborhood with mostly boys and their parents were always super nice to her. Joe had been a pro boxer. My wife introduced us and this guy looked me straight in the eye and said…..you seem like a nice guy and I’m sure you’ll be very happy together but I want you to know that if you ever hit her— I’ll kill you.
Never touched her Joe…honest!!

My very dear brother in law that passed 3 years ago told me the year before he died what I said to him before he married my middle sister. My Dad died when I was 11 and it was just me my Mom and 2 sisters.
He said that we were talkin and I was askin him a few questions about himself and I said " Well, glad to have you in the family. But if you ever hit her, I'll kill you." I was 15 at the time and he said the look on my face told him that I meant it.
When he told me that he also said, " I've never touched her either".
He was a wonderful man and I miss him very much. You were the best Deano.

Thank you for sharing that. We have no idea how much power our words have on people.

That was over 50 years ago and I didn't even remember I said that to him. But he sure did.
When I was 16 I broke up a fight between my mom and dad and told him that of course there was no way i could have done it but he never hit her again until he passed some 50 years later
He hit her 50 years later and died?

My Brother said something very similar to the fella who became his Son-in-law. That young man has been a solid asset to the family, my niece couldn't have done better.
