I was watching a fishing video on YouTube and this guy said to remember to throw your tag ends back into your bag. Do tag ends effect the environment or is it okay to leave little tag ends on the ground? I'm talking just a little half inch tag.

Don't leave anything on the ground. Take out EVERYTHING you bring in. Most of us also take out what slobs left behind.

My son in BSA has a "Leave No Trace" pledge which we also practice when fishing--we each carry a sandwich ziploc bag in our tackle bags in which we put trimmed tag ends, cut line, and line we find others have left behind. When full, we recycle.
I don’t let anything behind. He’ll keep it clean
If we all take a little extra, it helps in a big way!
Tag ends in water or on land can result in a slow painful death for some unfortunate animal. Like others i carry a trash bag for line torn baits. Leave nothing. Old line n plastic products are hard on props n jets.
I was amazed to find how much line my buddy and I actually cut off in a day. We put the line in a separate bag from my other garbage after a day on the lake fishing multi species. I wish I had a photo. Please take your line home and dispose of it properly.
Put it in the trash or recycle. The line can get in between the trolling motor and the prop causing damage. It can also do the same on the outboard.
Listen to Fred...My 2cents.
I don't think tag ends are critical environmental threats, but way not just take em home to dispose of just like all your other trash?
Your right , I’m tired of picking up lure packaging and worm containers

Nothing on earth pisses me off any more than sucking someone’s discarded line in the prop of my outboard.
Except maybe an illegal trot line or gill net
I ruined a motorguide trolling motor. Cut a shaft seal picking up discarded mono . Water invaded lower unit and fried my speed coils. This one is still in the garage waiting on me to order parts , fix and sell at a loss
Should be anywhere from next Thursday thru feb 26 2026
Been lucky so far and have only cut a seal in one outboard motor. Still $135 repair for a buddy to do it. Probly $400 at a shop
The others I recovered after inspection found no seal leaks.
Please do not leave line or anything else in the lake , river or stream .
Bad for everything that lives in the lake and those would Persue them

Nutz. When you think about how many tag ends could be discarded in just one day thats a lot of line. Even one pc could kill a animal. I got home from river one day checked my jet. Had several yds of line stuck in It. I've seen guys throw torn plastics over board. I take everthing i can home with me. Have a good one brother 👍👍
When I was in the scouts about 50yrs ago
we'd say "Pack it in , Pack it out"
We'd bury our camp fires, try to leave things better than we arrived.
Couldn't tell you the number of road sides, dry creek beds,
lake backwaters we cleaned in those days.
Taught me to be a good steward of the land .
You can tell a lot about a man (or people) by the way the way they keep their property.
Not preaching, just saying.
Now go have fun catching the big ones.
