Fished the Megabass deep 6 the other day
This wasn’t first time throwing it , but it was the first time I’d put a couple hours on it
I was throwing it on a 7-4 St Croix Avid x heavy and a Shimano Curado DC with 30 pound Seaguar Smackdown and 6 ft Seaguar blue label leader in 12 pound
Here are my thoughts about this lure
It’s 7/8 oz weight casts a mile. Especially on the DC. I intentionally positioned to cast into the 10 mph wind as I was also testing the DC
If this lure has weight transfer , it don’t do much to keep the lure from spinning during cast. Still cast a mile.
Gets down quick. I was hitting 12 ft after about 12 fast cranks
It stays down. I had occasional potting contact at 16 ft. It’s advertised for 20 ft
But I wasn’t hitting it.
I was using an erratic stop and burn retrieve. Rod tip inches from water surface
A really fast retrieve may get a little more depth
Action is fantastic. It has a tighter wiggle. Almost like a flat side crank. Steady thump
Retrieve effort was surprisingly light considering this is a 20 ft crank
Lots easier than a Spro and a world of difference from a Norman
The rattle is pretty crisp.
Hooks. The hooks on these are big , I’d say 1-0 , strong and extremely sharp. Not sure of manufacturer but I would not consider changing them
Lure appears to be pretty durable. No damage , lust a little scuffing on the bill from bottom contact
Colors
I was using the Wakasagi color . Megabass offers some of the most beautiful finishes in the market.
I favor natural colors on deep cranks
I only caught the one fish but so far, this looks like it’s gonna be my go to for 15-16 ft deep cranking.
These things are pricy. About $20 or more.
Worth it? Let me catch a few more and I’ll answer that
Thanks, keep us posted. I like input from personal experiences, just saying
Ben, do you think the Seaguar braid kept the lure from hitting the 20’ depths?
I’m not sure. I’m thinking I was limited by Casting distance by intentionally casting into the wind and by my retrieve method.
I think next time I’m gonna see what I can get max depth.
I read an article somewhere that says crankbaits are depth rates using 12 pound mono and ridiculously long casts.
It’s pretty common for a crankbait to be rested for a specific depth, and never reach that depth.
There is a book I bought on EBay and never got called precision casting. Written by the same guys that wrote precision trolling.
I wish I would have recieved this book.
Crankbait depth is kind of a guessing game until you try it

This is one of our “premier” salmon spots. All those boats are trolling in a tight circle at an entrance to a little lake from the river, have quit counting at 200 boats. The few times we bother with this we troll with braid, being thinner less water drag and gets deeper quicker so we can keep our lines closer to boat, as you can see not much room

Yikes, what a cluster…
Kinda looks like the walleye run on some of the larger rivers around here.

Yikes...after seeing this photo I do not think I will ever complain again about boat traffic when I am out fishing! Talk about pressure on the fish! In those conditions you would need to be extremely good at your boat handling...the fishing part would be a challenge too...especially when you hook up on a fish.
By the way...as per the original post...great review on the lure!
We gave up a few years back, too much playing bumper boats. There’s a reason the boats are there, high concentration fish spot. If you do hook one it may end up jumping 3-4 boats over and in about 15 lines, not worth it.

Sounds like Coho today. Cray Cray. 8 lines and one coho each time we got fish on boat. 4 or 5 were on downriggers the rest were on surface within 5 ft of surface
Am curious as to why when they rate crankbait depths they would use mono and not fluoro? We tested some lures and used 10# fluoro and the lures did make depth numbers or were really close. Making a long cast with mono seems it would slow the sink rate.

Introduction: Unless you're an experienced tournament angler, thirty pound bags on a weekend of fun fishing on Clear Lake, California are usually the byproduct of a good spring bite, but this Fall we had the opportunity to share time on the water with Megabass of America and Hi's Tackle Box.
The event was supposed to be an opportunity to go through some of the new tackle recently brought in by the manufacturer while sharing some time on the water.
Trouble with an actual on the water introduction is, if you find a bite with a bait that's working better than others, you tend to go native and stick with what's working until that bite subsides.
Naturally, with us on hand, it's difficult to keep the news like this in check.
Introducing our look at what might be the next hot bait from Megabass, the Deep Six crankbait.
The Easy Cranking, Deep Diving Megabass Deep Six…

Guessing that's Drano, on the Columbia, right Shutupandfish ?
Have never been, especially after seeing videos on fishing shows and hearing the narrative about "maintaining etiquette" there. So reminds me of the shoulder-to-shoulder "stuff" I ran into in Alaska and here on the Rogue at the Hatchery Line(they finally closed that down, on account of the fights and general behavior... Grandmas brandishing pistols, if the scuttlebutt is to be believed !).
Not sure if anybody is truly having "fun" fishing, when it appears more like "a battle for trolling supremacy"(nice terminology for "cluster f##k on a waterbody"). Even the estuary at Gold Beach (the Rogue River, as it enters the Pacific) can be like that, at times....NO THANK YOU.....NOT THIS GUY, and certainly not in MY boat.
No matter the catch, that is just insane (just imagine the boat ramp and rig-parking at daybreak or earlier !)
I'm sure some go home with dinner and a few tales to tell, but...did you really have "a great day" ? Doubt it.
Give me a peaceful stretch of shoreline, or a beautiful evening as the wind dies down and the water turns to glass....... that's why I "fish"..... dinner is a bonus, can enjoy just being alive and able to appreciate nature, thanks.
Here's to hoping y'all fish for the "right" reasons(imo, of course), as well.
You called it, Drano. And all the rest
