I am retired with a disability. Though I can walk, and stand OK, climbing any kind of embankment is nearly impossible. I tie flies, and build custom rods. I'm living now with me eldest son, his wife, and three of my grandkids in Helena, MT. I have a 7 weight Winston BIII, and a 3 weight CTS Crystal-glass rod that just needs to be fished. I'm looking for water that is easily accessible, with a good chance for catching trout from the shore, somewhere close to Helena. Anyone knew of such a place? I am new to Montana.
I spent ten years in the U.S. Navy, serving both on aircraft carriers, and on Naval Air Station North island, next to San Diego. I also worked for General Dynamics, and Lockheed Missiles and Space, repairing electronic sub assemblies on aircraft, and te Navy's DSRV - Alvin. I moved back to my home town in U.P. MI., and built the telecommunication network for my local Native American Tribe, and also went to school and earned my B.S. degree in electrical engineering technology, while taking care of my sick wife, and raising two giirs, and two boys.
Now, I just want to enjoy my family, qualify for a kidney transplant, and maybe do a little fishing.
O, and I;m a self taught gournet cook. So if you need recipes, or cooking techniques,
i share.
Now you know who I am. i look forward to interacting in this forum.

Welcome RJ. Thank you for your service. I am too far away and know nothing about Montana. There are members from Montana and I'm sure they will help you. Wishing you the best.
Welcome to the Stage RJ. I'm a retired ETC, been out about 30 years now, and don't miss it a bit. I spent most of my career down in that area, flying out of NAS NI. Don't know that I call myself a gourmet cook, but I do enjoy cooking and most of it tastes pretty good to me. My specialty is gumbo and I do pretty good job with pork on the pellet grill. We do get to talking cooking on here every once in a while. Feel free to jump in. We love photos, so when you catch some, let's see a picture? Again, welcome aboard shipmate!

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, RJF! I too, became somewhat disabled y also took some electronics/ computer training... I'm (was... I "let" the certification "lapse") an Associate Electronics Technician/ about 3 months of strictly computer studies, towards the end of the schooling... However, my memory has certainly seen better days... Haven't been capable of actually working, for nearly 20 years.... My sense of balance left me, a good many years ago.
I've got right at zero% experience in your neck'o the woods; but, yeah; there are some members, alot closer to you than myself. Good luck with it all!! I bet someone from near you will be noticing you here, soon.
I also used to tie some of my own flies, but, it's been most of 50 years, since I've done THAT!
RJ... just outside of Polson (if I remember right about an hour from you) is the Flathead Lake dam. There is a good dirt road that will take you all the way down to the river. It's full of fat rainbows 14 to 16 inches in size. You won't regret the trip.

Welcome RJF. Really nice introduction. First, thank you for your service. My grandson is currently on the USS Lincoln but is getting out in a month or two. He and his bride bought a home near us down here in Alabama so it’ll be fun taking them fishing here on Guntersville lake.
Second, never been to Montana so I can’t help you in your fish quest but we have members there that will.
Your 3wt sounds sweet.
Really hope you get that transplant soon. It’ll make a huge difference in your quality of life.
A lot of us are food centric second only to fishing so we enjoy swapping recipes and posting pictures of our culinary delights.
We have another member on here that goes by RJS who is quite the bard his self. You two should hit it off real good.
Don’t forget, we love pictures of fish, food, scenery, dogs, grandkids. You get the idea.
Stay safe and tight lines.
Yankeeblue, where are you located? I'm originally from Sault Ste. Marie MI, and know several good fishing streams, as well as great spots on the St. Mary's River.

Thanks RJ. I'm in Connecticut, a born and bred New England guy. Thanks for the offer but I'm too far from Montana and Michigan. There should be some Montana guys, or guys that have fished there along soon to help you. Again, best of luck to you with your health and fishing brother.
Welcome RJ. Sounds like a pretty good life resume to me. Thanks for your service.

Lots of charter boats out of there, it’s on the southern part of the Flathead lake which is the largest lake west of the Mississippi.
Giant lake tout in that lake.
