What would a 6'6" Medium Heavy Fast action casting rod be best for?

I already have a 7' medium heavy fast action which I'm using to throw texas rigs, Carolina rigs, and some larger top water lures. I'm looking to pair up something with another reel (metanium hg) and found this 6'6" abu on sale that I like. I mostly bank fish so I though maybe a shorter rod would be nice sometimes. Am I just sacrificing casting distance? Would this rod fare well throwing the above mentioned baits?

Buy it. You will be happy. You can't have too many rods. Will do about the same as your 7 foot. I hate taking time to tie on different lures, so I outfit my rods for what I am fishing for. I'm ready to go with topwater, spinner bait, crankbait, and plastics tied on. Put one down, pick up the other and keep going.

I use both a 7’ and a 6’6” on a regular basis, you wouldn’t think 6” in length would make a difference but it for me it did, I can work some baits better on the 6’6”…

I actually prefer 6'6 rods most of the time. I have found that having the right reel with a silk spool can make more of a difference on casting distance for me. Just because you have a longer rod doesn't necessarily mean it's going to cast farther than a shorter rod. The reel can really make all the difference in my opinion.

Absolutely agree
That 6-6 with the Metanium HG will be a nice addition.
The shorter rod will be great for close quarters accuracy work ( docks, lay downs etc) and will be fantastic for just about any application.

I actually prefer 6-6 for jerkbait fishing.
As well as vertical work.

The Metanium is such a fantastic reel, casting distance will be a non issue, unless you are bomb casting a lot ( super deep cranks for example) then extra length really comes in handy.
The Metanium is slightly heavier than the Aldebaran and will balance well with the MH rod as long as it’s a high quality rod from any manufacturer.

Ben, you and I must have a lot in common. You're spot on with the jerkbaits being perfect on the 6'6. Funny you took the words out of my mouth, but I didn't mention it in my first message since he said he fishes from shore, which I'm sure you know makes it a little tougher jerkbait fishing, not that you can't do it from shore but definitely not the same!

Casting lures from the bank as an alternative to bait and wait. You can never have too many rods.

Properly loading up the rod can make a lot more difference in casting distance than a 6" length difference

The advantage of rod length in surfcasting as far as bait fishing is keeping the line above the wave line.

It's all about the reel pair it with a good reel and there really is no difference
