I want to know what would the right lure to throw would be in a canal near my house, I have seen many 4 + lb peacock bass, but they are in the middle/ bottom. But every time I throw anything that is not top water it gets snagged full of grass. This canal has a lot of grass in the bottom, and it is not that deep

WellThe BroccoliBro: Peacock Bass are known for hitting top water lures. My personal best was 19 lbes in the Rio Negro River, Brazil. I caught it on a Heddon top water that had been given a custom paint job to look like a small Peacock. The guide services in Brazil often have their clients use a lure called a WoodChopper, but I don't think you keed to do that. It does not have to be that big. Just Sayin...RJS

Like Mr. Samples, my biggest peacock (22lbs) came out of the Rio Negro; it, and many others,
liked the Heddon Zara Spook in the traditional red/white color. I suspect the Zara Spook Jr would
work well in your canals. Be ready for some explosions!

Twitch a big rapala original . It floats and only dives a foot or so when twitched . Get aggressive with the twitch pause retrieve.
Do this and I bet you get bit

To avoid snagging on the grass at the bottom I would throw a wacky Senko with a Berkley 19 2/0 W.G. Weedless Needle Point hook. This has a safety pin device for avoiding grass. It is very frustrating removing seaweed from your hook every time.

Try a 130 sized whopper plopper. That lure comes with good hooks and hardware and should hold up to peacock bass.....My 2cents
