BAIT FISHING

Folks:

Can anyone help? New to fishing, and using worms. Have had great luck but when the little crappies are biting they constantly take bait after every cast. I have tried hooking the worms a lot, a little, and cutting them down to a third or so but nothing seems to make a difference.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the stage corn. If you eat crappie I’d catch my limit and toss back the little ones. Crappie are the absolute best eating fish so filet out the keepers and have them for dinner. They won’t always be there so catch them while you can and enjoy. I wish I had your problem.

Switch to using crappie jigs, that might prevent the little ones from biting. I misread your first post.

Have you tried small minnows, if they are available ? Here in our local lakes if they keep taking your bait , try fishing4-6 ' deeper ,dont know if that will help in your part of the country, but mix it up as Rutinbuck mentioned,

Was out the other day for crappies and couldn’t buy a bite on a multitude of live baits ( which I normally do). Switched over to those Keitech 2” swing impacts on a 1/32 ounce jig head and then started catching. Sometimes you’ve gotta switch it up and keep at it and there’s those days that no matter what you try it just doesn’t work

Try a smaller hook.

Fish Bites works well at staying on your hook and takes a lot of abuse. Try the blood worm flavor. Works great.
Also "Hey Skipper" shrimp bits, squiddy bits and clammy bits works well, stay on the hook pretty well.
