This group of fishermen has decided to fight back against invasive flying carp by holding a carp-catching competition. The organizer of the event thought it would be much more fun to call it a Redneck Fishing Tournament. I had no idea carp could fly out of the water like this and found it amazing to watch

Yup, those are the Asian carp which are coming in via bilge water from China. They are fighting to keep them out of the Great Lakes as they are spreading like crazy.
What can go wrong with a bunch of boats trying to net flying fish? Looks like fun, but can be really dangerous.
There have been videos of bow fishermen shooting them out of the air, people whacking them with spiked bats, etc.

Wonder how a net strung out between two boats would do?

Probably well enough to cause an accident 😉

I saw a video about 10 years ago with a guy shooting an article about the issue. As he was narrating, the boat was filling with fish. He had well over 150 by the time it stopped. No net, they were just jumping in as the driver was cruising at maybe 5mph.
Why don’t we feed the homeless with these things?

Saw a video on these once and they would go down the river and shoot em with shotguns, with no other boaters around. Sounds like fun and get to brush up on skeet shooting

If this was closer to where I live I'd do it! Not sure I'd get all crazy and zany into borderline safety danger of people in the boat...but it would be a blast to test your coordination with a net!

I just read an article which said the Asian Bighead Carp is about to have a name change which will make them more attractive as table fare…similar to when they created Chilean Sea Bass and Orange Roughy. Supposed to be better for you than Tilapia, but the only way to sell the meat is by grinding it due to the bones. Whether or not the bones are removed before grinding was not mentioned 😱
If we see a “new” fish burger on the menu by the end of the month…we may already know what it is…
