I tried fishing years ago with my son and just didn’t have the time for it. Now that I’m older, I’m really trying to get back into it. Lately I have been in the Sabine Pass Area trying to catch alligator gar fish, and I just haven’t been having any luck out there. If anyone has any information on where I can possibly setup from experience please be sure to let me know. I’m am also willing to travel outside of my area to find a spot for me and my family to fish...

GHarris: What has given you the idea that Alligator Gar would likely be in and around the Sabine Pass area? Seems that area would have higher level of saline, being next to the Gulf. Why not try back up in Lake Sabine area proper? I have seen gar activity there along the Louisiana side of the shore. I wasn't trying to catch gar at the time but they are there. If you know any of the guides who work the Lake Sabine area, might give them a call and ask what they have to say about finding gars. Just Sayin...RJS

RSJ, will do! I’ve been talking to a few people in my neighborhood that own boats and they have said the exact same as you have said. I live here in Port Arthur and I’m told it’s plenty of alligator gar to catch around here. I’ll be out there, and I’ll post pics of anything I happen to catch....

Gharris: You are on top of one of the best salt water fisheries in Texas, in my opinion. You have outstanding speckled trout and red fish in Lake Sabine. I have caught probably more and personal best fish there. I also took my grandaughter fishing there and she caught a 5 lb trout and a 5 lb. red back to back within minutes of each other! My guide has retired, but there are others still working. You also have great flounders there. Just Sayin..RJS

Thank you so much for the information. My family and I will be out there fishing every chance we get! My wife called earlier and told me she purchased her fishing license. I am now more excited than ever... Thanks again

Why are you interested in catching GAR fish?

It’s a real popular fish here down south, and I myself just want to learn how to fish for alligator gar. Everyone says it’s not easy, so I say that’s what interest me... I also have the type of equipment it takes to concur such a fish like an alligator gar.
