Is there a time of year that too water works better for specs.
Good question! Jdeforest, I don't know. It pays to have one or three in your tackle box though. I have had my best luck in May and June at the Boliver pocket with topwater lures though. Just Sayin...RJS
Don't know about specs in Texas, but for brown trout in California it's all about time of day, not time of year. Right about sunrise and sunset is the best time. A Rapala or Pins minnow can be deadly.
Spirit: There are some trophy hunters who will wade the flats in the dead of winter, but on a sunny day stalking super sized female trout who venture out on those same flats to catch mullet for a meal. I was never a trophy hunter nor willing to wade fish in the dead of winter with a top water lure that is an imitation of a mullet. Just Sayin...RJS

I don't know about time of year but in summer nighttime under lights will work.
Jdeforest: Well, I refuse to choose the time of year. My rule is go as often as you can, stay as long as you can!!! I have fished when the guides of my rod would freeze! And we would siphon gasoline into a small can with sand in the bottom and light it to create a little heat to keep warm. Remember, if you can find the fish, they have to eat sometime, so sooner or later they will be interested in your bait. Just Sayin...RJS
Ditto what Spirit says and ditto what RJS about the time of year.

Agreed. I am ready to dedicate a pole just to have a hollow bodied frog, whopper popper, and hula popper. Okay maybe three poles.
