Took granddaughter out to local lake today
Winds 15 mph sustained. Not ideal but manageable.
Went to first spot I thought post spawn crappie would be. 8 boats on my spot. Lots of guys trolling.
Didn’t want to spot lock in guys trolling paths so we moved from secondary spot.
Estimated 400 boats on lake today plus jet skis.
Some of these boats are big 30+ footers.
They had the lake chopped to hell and back.
On way to secondary spot , I’m at speed. Not wide open but about 35 mph.
Had a 35 ft pleasure craft doing about 50 and a big ski boat cross my path in opposite directions.
Wakes merged and I saw that it would likely be hairy.
Adjusted course for head on and slowed to about 20 mph
Crested first wake way bow high , when it settled in the trough. . Second wave was waiting to eat my lunch.
Speared that wave full on. Went sub surface . Boat ate it it from bow to stern. About 10 inches of water in cockpit.
Granddaughter , bless her heart is grabbing her stuff , mu stuff like crazy moving to higher ground.
Told her “ sweetie , we are sinking”
Put bilge on manual
Limped back to closest ramp and tied off to let bilge pump do it’s job.
Some dick asked me to move so he could launch his half million. Dollar boat.
Told him to F off. I’m not moving till my pumps clear the load so I wouldn’t sink.
Bilges did their job and back in business.
Tried to go to third spot but water so rough my 80 pound thrust TM couldn’t keep pace
So rough
Been boating with regularity for 40 years in all types of water craft and have fished in some treacherous conditions. Some I consider insane . this is the first time I’ve actually speared a wave and been sub surface.
I like my Lund a lot but it sux as a submarine.
Wow so glad to hear you and Granddaughter made it through this crazy ordeal 🙏🙏🍀 hope that your next trip will be a wonderful time and you have a great 👍 time sounds like you have a great 👍 and wonderful granddaughter tight lines and good luck 🍀👍
Rough day Ben, to say the least. Glad it turned out okay after the submarine incident.

Wow Ben, glad I don't live near your water. That sounds terrible. Glad y'all are OK and didn't sink. Good experience for the GD though. How bad things can get and what can happen in a hurry. How to not loose your head and handle things the best you can. Stay calm and sensible in the situation and just deal with it. Good for you and glad y'all are alright.

I fish in lakes where those asshats don’t go any more. They’re so inconsiderate and disrespectful. Saw that a LOT in Oregon. Not bad here in Idaho but there’s always a few who don’t care what happens to the next guy. Really puts a crunch on an, otherwise, great fishing trip.

Sounds like a typical Sunday on the water. Lots of ignorant people own boats.
15mph sustained wind will keep me out of a boat everyday
Not sure how you train stupidity out of inconsiderate people.
Quote from my Dad
“ be ever mindful of those less fortunate”
And that included people with smaller boats or no boat at all.
He was a coast guard veteran
Just sayin. He once threatened to throw me overboard “ if I ever did that again”
Was basically just going a bit too fast for his liking. He threw me down on a back seat and he took the wheel for the rest of the day.

Well, he was a coast guard vet, trained......most boaters aren't interested

Glad you're both ok Ben, and your boat survived. These are the same 'holes that took a 4hr boating class, and think they know it all. Everywhere in the USA, you are responsible for your wake, and any damage or injury caused by it. The problem is while you're trying to survive, you don't have time to jot down registration numbers or take a photo of the offender. We're seeing a lot more problems up here due to the spread of kneeboarding, and wakesurfing. They are set-up to throw maximum wake, and are 2-3 times the size of waterskiers wakes. They should be regulated, and restricted to specific areas.
Had several incidence of taking spray to the face. Typical yee haw , ride em that happens all the time in rough water conditions
This one was “rogue”.
Handled it like I’ve handled every other wake condition . Cautiously
This one was a sum bitch of a wake.
Waves on lake were 1 - 1 1/2. That I deal with every day.
This one probably 3 1/2 or more including the trough.
No crap. Grand daughter said let her know a week ahead of next trip so she could prepare her will.
She is a sweet kid . My buddy.
She’s turning into a young woman and her papaw ain’t even a little bit ready for that.

How's the fishing down there?

Like I said primary spot had a crowd. We cruised thru and marked fish where I thought they would be. But bunch of boats and trollers so couldn’t set up
Secondary spot largely barren. Small school of white bass scattered and found good concentrations of bluegill in 23 ft of water. This lake isnt known for big bluegill.
Failed to find open water crappie schools.
I’d say they are holding on brush 15 -18 ft deep.
That’s what we saw but could t set up
