Like a lot of fish, these are subject to colloquial vernacular.
They are Morone saxatilis/stripers/striped bass/rockfish depending on to whom and where you are talking.

The oldtimers here in Georgia call them rockfish and a redfish is a bass.

I am so envious. Just last Friday on my kayak reeled in 6 rock all would have been legal, but our county here in NC put a ban on them. Hopefully someday soon they lift the ban so I can keep no more than 2.

Not even close to the "rockfish" of the Oregon variety. We just call those stripers, maybe striped bass. Our "rockfish" are of the sea-going variety, yellow eye, ling cod etc. Were these freshwater or saltwater caught ?

You are so right. I think we are the only state to call them Spottails
Depends on if you live in the south or not.
In Virginia, we call baby red drum "Puppy Drum".
If you were in NJ you would be looking at a big fine. Catch limit is 2 per day, one between 28" & 43" and one longer than 43". Where are you that your catch is legal?
Aside from legalities, I think harvesting a bunch of schoolies is irresponsible.
They all look undersize to me....in Maryland you are only allowed two per day
These are definitely not of any legal size or limit I know of. Nor are they rock fish
