Penn Battalion II Inshore Fishing Rod - Need some advice

Hi, I'm fairly new to fishing and currently own a medium power / medium action Bass Pro spinning rod that I picked up for $20 or so a while back. The rod has been great while learning but I recently started using a MH Shimano Sellus bait caster and I can definitely tell it is time to upgrade my spinning rod.

I mostly fish for bass on a highland reservoir but I do take occasional trips to the coast and enjoy inshore fishing for trout and redfish. Because of this I'm looking at the Penn Battalion II Inshore fishing rod. However, I can't decide between their Medium or Medium Light action options, or their Fast or Extra Fast power options.

For freshwater I'd like to use the spinning rod for drop-shots, shaky heads, flukes, swim jigs, and jigging spoons; but still have flexibility to throw top-water. For saltwater I'll mostly be throwing swim jigs and suspending twitch baits, and the occasional jerk bait.

Any advice on the preferable action and power is greatly appreciated.

I like to hold shake touch bend to feel the rod when buying , still I have bought Penn combos on line that I am very happy with . if you liked your the action of your old rod work with that or just use it in comparison . hope this helps .

Penn battle 4000 spinning combo .“Tackle Direct” has these right now for $129.00 these are great reels on a good rod. for a little more the Penn spinfisher combos are also exceptional an value. Both of these are perfect for back bay inshore/ near shore fishing as well as some surf fishing. For most surf fishing from beach a larger set up is more appropriate but I still use the 7ft model with 4000 reel in the surf for certain species such as small late season stripers or flounder in the summer.

Those reels alone are in the $120. Range
Extra Fast action medium light power will catch a wide range of sizes and species of fish and throw 1/4 - 1oz. range of baits and will get you in the game affordably and still give high quality and durability.
