New(ish) angler here, got into fishing about a month ago and initially really liked it. I only fish saltwater (inshore), and i just cant catch fish. I seriously get no bites.I have yet to catch 1 good size/species of fish in 5 total days of fishing.

I've watched as many informational videos as possible to try to increase my fish catching, but as far as i can tell, i'm doing everything right. I'm fishing at good locations, at good times, with good lures, and i cant seem to get any good bites.

I mainly have been using 3 inch berkley gulp shrimp, as well as zman paddletails. I've also tried things like spoons and twitchbaits, with little luck.

What am i doing wrong? Is it common to go days without catching fish? if so, this may not be the hobby for me, i don't have 20 hours to waste every week.

Go to a local bait shop and ask them, cus they’ll know details specific to your exact location.

You'll just get fed a line of crap about how it's on fire and you need to buy this lure to get em.

Send some money and shoot the crap, then you'll get the real deal info.

Also depends on the depth of the water inshore. If it’s shallow most fish move out to deeper water during the day because of the heat. Also try casting your into shadows if there is brush overhang.

Inshore is basically 0-20nmi.

What you're describing is back bay.

Tell me a little about what you are doing, where at, (location), then what type of area you have access to. I've fished all over the world both professionally and recreationally for 30 years, I don't claim to be anything special but I can help get you started.

Well I live in Florida, Tampa Bay Area specifically. A few recent places I’ve been to is Philippe park, and pier 60, on Clearwater beach. You can look them up on google maps to see where they are. I live fairly close to Philippe park so I have a fairly large amount of places to fish both in the Gulf of Mexico and in Tampa bay. I’ve been throwing mainly Berkley shrimp and Alan paddle tails for bait, with 3/8 oz jig heads. Sometimes I use a 2 inch spoon. Hope this helps

I've fished that area many times, starting this month through until usually around November the snook fishing can be some of the best you can ask for. A kayak or wading both can yield good results, the key to catching fish here is early in the morning and late in the evening near high tide, so the last 2 hours of the incoming and first 2 of the outgoing. Early in the morning try a top water plug like, I like mirror lures , I then switch up to gulp shad but paddle tails and others work too. Menahaden, croaker and live shrimp will work too. There is a large mangrove point in the middle of the park, my best success has been from that point south. Good luck!

Just get some sand fleas out of the surf, for free and practically effortless. Put one on a hook, throw it out and let it sit on the bottom, if you don't get a bite, you're not casting into the ocean

I fish all the time and get skunked. Honestly for me the key is to not focus on fishing. Your outdoors near the water, if you catch a fish it's just a plus. Go to a local tackle shop and ask them what they use. That being said I want to recommend a plastic swimbait on a drop shot, and a bottom rig with either squid strips or live shrimp. The bottom rig you just cast out and sit in a rod holder or proper aligned lucky rock.

Hi. I too am new sorta to fishing. I know that if you use soft lures you might have better luck. Also, try off of a dock or log. When reeling in, do it kinda slow. Now, this is coming from a girl so take it as you may. Have fun. I know I have had great luck in catching bass.

First of all, if you consider it a waste of time, you shouldn't be fishing at all. You gain experience every time you fish. Learn how to read tidal charts and lunar calendars if you really want to catch fish.

Learn how to sharpen hooks till they're scary sharp.

Offering:
Whatever you throw should have good motion and create noise, or vibrations.
Should look like the bait in the area.
And give it scent applied if it didn't have smell already.

Be the predator:
Think like the fish you're after.
Where would you set up to ambush your next meal? What's around? A point, Oyster bed, sandbar, grass bed, structure in the form of rocks, a dock or a nice batch of moving water.

A plan:
Have a plan of attack and stick to it untill you hook up. Give it time and be thorough. Bring your offering where that preditor should be waiting and work the area. If you find activity but not hooked up, change the speed of retrive, twitch or jigging.

Positivity:
Just know they're going to bite. Invision exactly what's going to happen. He's right behind your offering. Be ready and stay in the game.

Senses:
You can find fish by using all your abilitys. You may not see them but you may smell them. You can hear a crash of water. Be in the moment and realize that some days will be better than others. Find a fishing partner and you'll notice today was his day and tomorrow will be your's.
Good luck too you!
