I’ll have basically the entire summer off, so I’m currently looking for a destination where I can explore, fly fish, and experience a culture other than my own. I’m not sure what the state of the world will be in June, so many countries may still be off limits, but throw them out there regardless! Would love to hear your experiences.

Never fished out side the US. A different state will do for me. I hope you get to live your dream and post some pictures when you do. Gordon

Well, it depends upon what you want to fish for. I have been on the Amazon River in Brazil and caught Peacock Bass which was a blast.

Mexico offers a lot, I have caught a large striiped marlin, black bass, both PB for me there.

Puerto Rico and Costa Rico for Tarpon and snook.

All were a lot of fun. Just Sayin....RJS

Costa Rica by all means. Best friend to the USA in Latin America. The tarpon are a ball. Florida tarpon may weigh 90 lbs, these will be 140. Catch them near shore from a small boat or even from the shore. Freshwater have some very interesting choices also. Enjoy yourself off the water too. People are superb.

I's in the US Navy for 21 years, got to travel all over the world and was very fortunate to be able to fish almost everywhere I went. As someone up above said, it depends on what your expectations are and what you want to fish for. The only place that I would like to fish that I never had the opportunity would be Mongolia for taimen. If you don't know what that is, look it up. They are giant trout. I first saw them on Jeremy Wade's TV program River Monsters. That would be, for me, the ultimate fly fishing trip, to catch an 80 or 90 pound trout in Mongolia.

If your a fly angler Argentina is outstanding , offshore Costa Rica or Panama well worth the trip !
Timing is also a part of equation . I’ve never fished New Zealand but that’s great as well they tell me .
Species sought is also a consideration , contact some booking agents they can give you ideas that are best for your timing !
Covid may still be in play and prevent access in many countries !

Fly fishing in the Baltic Sea around Gotland Island, Sweden for Sea Trout.
The island itself was a delightful area to explore and the fishing was exciting.

Idaho. Just carry a gun so you fit in with the locals. One of the advantages is that they speak English.

Ireland, far and away. They almost speak English. Pub grub is superb, bed-and-breakfasts are spectacular, the ghillies are fun and the Guinness is beyond words. Add trout, sea trout and Atlantic salmon to the mix for a wonderful week or two.
