I just got a 7'6" extra heavy rod for small striper and I'm wondering what size reel to put on it, any ideas?

Did this rod just mysterioiusly appear at your doorstep? YOu might Google the mfgr. and ask them for recommenadtions. I'm sure there will be other posts who will provide some thoughts about reel size. What possessed you to order this rod without any thoughts as to the matching reel? Just Sayin...RJS

As Ben asked - is it a spinning or casting rod ? Dont know much about baitcasting gear, but for saltwater spinning I would suggest three major brands (just my own preferences); Okuma,
Shimano and Penn ! Okuma has
saltwater reels starting around
the $50 to $80 range to well over $500 ! Shimano and Penn reels start a little higher, but also have models priced in the ozone level !
For me, it's all about price and what fits my budget; if money is not a major concern, then I'd definitely look into the mid-level
to more expensive models !

A little research goes a long way towards finding your best fit; one way to do that is to call one of
the major sporting goods chains (Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop/Gander Mtn.) and ask them to send you their most recent catalog, then peruse the catalog until you find several models that you like and narrow your choices down until you find the model/price range that best suits you !
