I always have plenty of worms
I keep old rugs lying on my yard to attract nightcrawlers.my compost pile geerally has lots of redworms.but this idea keeps me suppliered with loads of FAT redworms.first, take a empty 3 lb coffee:
can:
1. Make a few holes in bottom for drainage
2.I also make a few holes around rim if you transport worms with lid on.
3.mix medium and worms with tablespoon of topical fish food( it is great food) and some fresh coffee grounds ( for boost) repeat this 2-3 times a week
4.fill coffee can with medium and worms.I start with 2-3 tubs of worms from bait shop and add worms I find
theres your medium! IMPORTANT:DO NOT ADD WATER AT ANY TIME! Ever notice that the best time to gather worms on top of ground is after a rain? worms do not like saturated soil! They will escape!
5. place slices of tomato and lettuce on top,DO NOT BURY!worms will crawl to top to eat tomatos, which they love! That is all the mousture they need!
All good ideas. Have picked up hundreds of worms after a rain and placed them in my vegetable garden. They produce some great fertilizer. Always can pick out a container full for fishing.
Since I have been taking Jeremiah fishing and he is wild about going, we bring any spare worms home. My wife had several empty flower pots so we've begun a small worm farm and keep it watered and fed. They are multiplying quite well, and hopefully didn't freeze this past week. Just Sayin...RJS
They love the rine from melons they will eat it down to paper thin an egg shells ground to a powder
More POWER to you Catfish Dave. Pass it on. Thank You for Educating the Good People here. I have Red Worm Farm and Earth Worm too. Red Worms Do NOT need refrigeration or ICE Earth Worms will need ICE or Frig....Do IT its Profitable if you have the time and the food..
Worms are a food that FISH and Birds fight over. Its very true
If you are at a Waterbody you have never been to find the BIRDS....the Fish will be right there but in WATER
That's my only OLD SCHOOL secret I will share today.
Jeremy I had red wigglers last year. but I couldn't get them big enough to get them on the hook. they was always just real skinny
Catfish Dave I was always told not to feed them acity stuff or citrus. But if they like it and it agrees with them why not 😁👍
I dig my worms, or buy them, and keep the leftovers in a five gallon bucket half filled with compost. I have a raised bed garden, so I take the extra time and work to dig it by hand in the spring to get a good stock in the bucket. I'll start that soon as it warms a bit more.

A few years ago I had a pretty elaborate "worm farm" for red wigglers. It was interesting and my granddaughter loved it.
I've been told that the night crawlers that you purchase from the bait store won't reproduce well. Have you had luck? What medium do you use for bedding? Will ordinary potting soil work?

Shredded paper, cardboard, old manure, and compost. Old leaves work good also
A couple a months one of the viewers on this site recommended a 1970's era book titled "LUNKERS LOVE NIGHTCRAWLERS". I told him that I had found a copy. He asked me to let him know how I liked it. This book tells you everything you need to know about fishing with Nightcrawlers from getting them, keeping them, using them, the right gear to use, where to fish in a lake based on structures in the bottom, and how to fish them. It tells how to make them the biggest and plumpest Worm so that fish can't resist them. This book tells you the way to catch BIG Lunkers. This book tells you about scents that cause Big Lunkers avoid your bait. I recommend this book if you are serious about catching a Lot of BIG Fish. If you want, I will take a picture of the cover.
