Hi all,
I am recently retired and getting back to the fishing that I love so much. Guess I haven’t forgot everything I knew. Caught a nice 17.5 inch rainbow trout. Turned around the next week and brought home another one 18 inches long. So I must be doing something right. Both had started out as stock trout but had been in the lake long enough to have acquired nice firm pink meat. So I am gradually restocking my old tackle for west coast fishing. Hope to try out trolling soon and maybe get some bass as well. Catfish are also on the menu. Next trip shore fishing I plan to set up one line specifically for catfish. Will be taking some chicken livers and some dough bait. Any other suggestions on bait worth trying for some eating size cats?
I’m not much help on cat fishing but sounds like you are on the right track

Welcome to the Stage cbates , I'm not a catfishermen by any stretch, but a lot of these guys swear by shrimp for lots of fish, including catfish. Give it a try, it smells better than stink bait.
Cbates: Welcome and it looks like you are well on your way to success already. I believe that if it is legal in your state, use some live perch, or blue gills, say 2 to 4 inches long. You will catch bigger cats, and avoid a lot of the bait stealers. Just Sayin...RJS
Welcome to the stage. Where are you fishing out of Lompoc? If you can find an oriental market they will have fresh mackerel. Works great for cats - very firm so it stays on the hook, bloody and oily.

Welcome Cathy and thanks for your service as an RN. My wife and I took a recumbent trike tour down the California coast in 2015 that took us through Lompoc. Took us 2-1/2 hours to pedal up Harris grade but only 15 minutes to sail down the other side. We spent the night at a nice campground on the south side of town.
Good luck on your fishing adventures.
