Hi Shelley, welcome to the stage. I've got a good friend who lives in Bradenton, but she doesn't fish and I've never been there, so I won't be much help. But we got lots of folks on here from around there, and I'm sure they're gonna show up and help you out. Please post some photos when you catch some fish - we love photos. And say hi to Gloria if you see her.

Hello Shelley
What are you looking to fish for? Fresh water/salt water?

I lived here for 17 years now a snow bird I like it by boat ramps at coquana beach. If you like to meet out there some time let me know when. My wife also fishes not sure if she will wade though.

anna maria island bridge. I had fun pulling a few sheepshead from the mainland side a few weeks ago. heading a lil farther north, my 2 fave spots are fort desoto pier and the bridge going onto honeymoon island (great spot for large spanish mackerels when they came through a couple months ago :). The wife and I are in Zephyrhills and have been trying spots from sarasota to homossasa over the last year and the only spot I haven't liked was Skyway bridge (to busy). If your ever looking for someone to toss a line with, just let us know. Best o luck n keep them lines tight :).

If you don't have a boat, fish the bridges or one of several piers in the area. If you want to try some wade fishing, I'd recommend Fort Desoto Park (a Pinellas County park just across the skyway from you). Especially the picnic area on Bunces Pass. It's a short hike, but look for the bridge over the lagoon and walk around to the inlet side of the lagoon. You can walk out on relatively hard sand to about your waste and cast to the darker water in front of you. Get a floating bait bucket that you can tie to yourself so you don't have to go back and forth to the beach to get a new bait. Live bait always trumps lures, but you can use a variety of lures. You'll find sea trout, snook, reds, flounder, maybe an occasional cobia or two and a variety of other species that travel the pass on the tides. Finally, I think kayak fishing is a hoot and will enable you to fish the shorelines, cover a lot ground and take in the beauty of the Florida Gulf Coast estuarine environment.

Hi Shelley! When I lived in Florida, one of the places we used to catch lots of sheephead and some redfish was the Alafia River off 41 at the boat ramp and under the bridge there. Havent fished there in years, but cant wait to get back. Check it out and let us know!
