Flounder are very voracious feeders but they like to attack the bait and return to a spot where they can eat it which means you have to give them a little more time after you feel the weight. Once I know he has the bait I give them at least 30 seconds. On an out going tide they like to set up to catch bait being forced out of shallows. On in coming they set up in shallows to catch bait coming in. At slack tide might as well eat your lunch.

Jimmy Scott: I posted the Texas Game and Fish Comm fishing report of salt wate fishing for January a few days ago, I suspect you can scroll back a day or two and find it, along with the report for Baffin Bay. Just sayin...RJS

Jimmy - I haven't been out in about 10 days (SPI/Port Isabel) but I'm hearing the flounder have been in the back bays by feeder creeks and inlets or in the rocks close to deeper cover. The trout and reds have been so active that many guys are just concentrating on those guys. I'm going out tomorrow along with FlyGuy and I'll let you know what we find.

Flounder fishing best in flats yarborough pass 100 to 200 yards off land.using underwater lights gig them after 12 midnight mid waist water or a little shallower. On rod reel use live shrimp slowly retreive your line takes a little longer. When all of sudden your line stops ,your not hung up the flounder has took it its mounth and settled back down in the sand. High tide good!

At that time take the rod back to where you can reach the line past the tip on the rod. Make sure the line is tight and then start flipping the line with your finger. You want the vibrations to go down the line to the hook in its mouth. It will irate the Flounder so it comes up out of the sand. Now you can reel it in instade of pulling the hook out of its mouth. Told to a friend of mine many years ago by a then "Old Fisherman".
