Gonna need to know... spinning ? baitcaster ? fly ? Solutions in each category, but technique, target fish and budget will ALL dictate pertinent advice. Narrow it down for us, please.

I have used fly fishing gear in Montana Yukon territory and Alaska in creeks and smaller rivers. Use a medium weight spinning rod and reel fishing in bigger lakes and shore fishing in the ocean. I took a charter boat out of Homer Alaska and all deep sea fishing gear was provided fishing 80 to 100 feet down with a heavy lead weight and herring for bait. I caught a 95 pound halibut there.🛶

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, 253fxt17!! Avoid the "telescopic" rods. I had bought a pair of 4-piece spinning rods/ reels that each fit in a small(ish) plastic "suitcase" (they looked more like a small brief case); at K-Mart... No more K-Mart... I can't remember the brand name of them, but, I remember that I liked'em way better than I liked the telescopic rod that I had. (It had gotten stuck in the open position, at a couple of joints.)
