Just getting into fishing and have question about getting a rod

Hey so I’m just trying to pick up a New hobby while I’m working from home during covid. I’ve only been fishing really twice in my life and don’t remember much but my second time not long ago I use a fly rod and did some fly fishing . I’m doing a lot of reading and soon will buy a rod and my question is should I start with a classic spin rod or start with fly rod. I’m mostly going to be fishing in random lakes or random spots in the river and ponds and maybe on the bay . But as of now no plan to fish for food and just want to do it for fun and learn some stuff and have a good time and return the fish after I catch . I remember fly fishing being more fun and more interactive , should I go with a fly fishing rod for my first one and learn through that , or is just more typical to start with a classic spin one . Thanks .

Sportsjacksm778: Well, you did not say what you were fishing for, and whether you were fishing from the bank or boat.

I would hazard a guess that you would be best served by starting out with a basic spinning reel and matching rod. I may sound prejudiced but fly fishing is the most difficult to master. Spinning is possibly the easiest. It's obviously your choice. Depends also on your pocket book. I suggest do a lot of shopping and price comparisons and also look at tackle on line before laying down the cash.

It would also help if you could find a seasoned fisherman where you live and get their advice as to what they'd recommend for your area and type of fish most commonly they fish for. Just Sayin...RJS

I agree with Robert. A 6 1/2 foot or 7' spinning rig. You can get a good combo for $100. And remember, you can use a "cast a bubble" to use fly's with your spin gear.

IMO, I’d buy a fly rod. You can always put a spinning reel on a fly rod, but never a fly reel on a spinning rod. Good luck and tight lines🤙🏼
