reading some of the posts about Viet Nam
this song was brought to mind
how many of you have heard this song
and how many know the words?

Written by Mel Tillis and sung by Kenny Rogers

'You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair

Ruby, are ytou contemplating goin out somewhere?
The shadow on the wall tells me the sun is goin down
Oh,Ruby, don't take your love to town
It wasn't me who started that crazy Asian war
but I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore
And yes it's true,I'm not the man used to be
Oh,Ruby,
I still need some company

It's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralyzed
And the wants and needs of a woman your age,Ruby I realised
And it won't be long I've heard them say until I'm not around
Oh Ruby don't take your love to town

Sh'e leavin now cause I just heard the slammin of the door
The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times or more
And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh ,Ruby, don't take your love to town

Oh, Ruby,
for God's sake turn around

my heart goes out to the veterans of that ol Asian war
they didn't start it but they went and did their duty
and then came home to harassment and called"baby killers"
makes me ashamed to be an American
this was a bad war
but the boys who were sent over there
were not bad
I salute and revere the "NAM" veterans

Know the song well. Was in the service during that time and remember all the protests against servicemen/women goin on then.
At least they don't do that anymore.

Thanks from a "Nam Vet"
I don't say much on this blog, mostly read but couldn't let this pass without comment.
Everyone familiar with the Vietnam war history knows the US military didn't lost the war, the press lost it for us.
Not only did they lose the war for us, they turn all civilians against all that served.
When I returned from the "war" to civilian life I couldn't even get a job because of the bias.

I operated and repaired state of the art electronic equipment but couldn't get a job wiring a water heater that I applied for. (Not qualified was the reasoning)

I am proud I served and wouldn't change my decision to serve if given the choice.
The plus was Uncle Sam put me through college and I've had a successful engineering career, now retired and have plenty of time to fish and golf.

Raised in a blue collar family, I was the only one of 10 children to get a college degree.
I owe that to the military training and the veteran benefits I received.
This is more I've said about the subject in 50 years, just saying

Thanks again for your support after all these years
Just a heads up, the press is still not "Free", it has a bias and usually left of center.
