I am sure I am in the minority, but I would not consider going fishing without my wife. She knows how to fish, and that is fact! We both can't wait for opening day when we will be able to cast our lines and wait for that first tug on our lines! We use only artificial bait and practice catch and release. She even takes her fish off the hook. I am 74 years old and do not work anymore due to a work related injury. I was in the automotive repair business my whole life including being a tank mechanic from 1966-1969 and loved every minute of what I used to do. If not for the injury I would still be working, but now WE have more time to launch our 14' aluminum boat hang the electric motor on the back and off WE go!

Welcome W Pennie. Really cool you two fish together. Mine likes quiet house with her younger boyfriend now. Cooper the Very Small Golden Retriever look alike keeps her company. Have fun. You will like this place. Do you fly fish or conventional type gear used?

Thank you for the warm welcome, I think this will be a way to learn more about what we all love to do.

I have tried fly fishing but never caught anything but the trees. We use Ultralight gear and 5lb. monofilament line. Nothing fancy, but effective! As far as lures, we use spinner baits exclusively.

At one time my wife fished with me. But no longer. However she will go with me and read while I fish. I enjoy the company of having her with me.

Open up your arsenal to include some topwater lures such as small frogs, poppers and twitch baits like a Heddon torpedo or a Zara Spook. The strikes are exciting!

Welcome Mr. and Mrs. William Pennie,
Those of us who have a wife who likes to go fishing are pretty lucky.
I don't see many post from this part of the country.
I'm your age and have such fond memories of Lake Hopatcong (lake of many coves.)
My family vacationed there back in the '50, before it became over-developed as it is now. It's still a great place, especially weekdays after the crowds leave.
Treasure all those great moments,
Fishure

What's your fav restaurant on the lake? Have a friend with a boat out there.

I am 75 and my wife doesn’t go with me now. She used to outfish me when we went fishing. We would fish in all kinds of weather and had a lot of fun. I agree with you that it’s great to have a wife that enjoys fishing.

You’re a lucky man. My wife likes to fish a little. Her first fish was a 19 3/4” smallmouth bass out of our canoe. She is deaf in one ear and couldn’t understand me as I told her to turn and let it swim over to me as guess who forgot the net? Well, what she thought was swing it over to me almost went horribly wrong...she lifted it out of the water with a light rod and as it flipped off the hook, it landed at my feet . I grabbed it and had her hold it for a picture. It is on my wall at work so I will post a picture of that picture when I am back in the office. We did this without flipping the canoe so I married her. 😉

That’s a great story and a darn good reason to marry the girl!!! Flipping a fish like that into your canoe without flipping the boat is marriage worthy!!

I took my wife fishing when we lived in Alaska. Her first salmon was a 72 lb. Kenai King salmon. She told me when I out fish her she will go again. She said it was work and kind of boring. Though she has little interest in fishing, she strongly encourages me, including trips in our motorhome.("keep the uncleaned fish outside". She also spent a year with our two young girls traveling the ICW in a sail boat. We traveled from Maine to Florida and points in-between. My kindergarten and fourth grade girls and I fished a great deal. I don't believe my wife ever picked up a rod. She may not fish, but what a trooper. What a good sport and what a catch.
