Maybe I’m OCD but I can’t stand using other peoples fishing rods and reels.
To me it’s like wearing someone else’s shoes
Just don’t feel right
Anyone else like this or am I just weird ?

Nah! No, not as long as it is good quality equipment. After all, as a kid everything I got m-dy hands on was hand-me-down equipment. I didn't start buying my own tackle until graduating from college. Just Sayin...RJS

Been like this for as long as I remember. Even as a kid.
My stuff was hand me down or stuff I did yard work / odd jobs for. Took a long time for it to feel right

Ben if you are considered weird you have a partner here. Always had the feeling that if something is loss or broken the exact replacement would not be what the owner really wanted. Feel the same way on tools. I will buy before borrowing.

Ben: Perhaps I misunderstood. I've never believed in borrowing gear. Like Plumbob said, when you borrow because you haven't bought, when you break it or lose it , you are obligated to replace it! Bad decision. Just Sayin....RJS

Come to think about it I’m kinda partial to my own tools. Not to the extent as rods and reels but yea.

My offshore boat has 6 matching rods with tld25s on them for trolling. I have never had a complaint about them. I'm not sure I would let you bring your own for reason of loosing a big fish it there was a mal function of yours. Now that said bottom fishing you bring your own or you can use mine. Same goes for inshore fishing. My son is left handed and needs his handle on the other side. Just saying.

In no way am I slamming other people’s stuff here. You and I could have identical outfits and I’d still feel a little uncomfortable using yours. Drag settings, brake adjustment , line size I don’t know.

I’m right handed but turn the handle with my left hand . Just sold my one and only active right handled reel. It felt so awkward grabbing the only righty from a deck full of lefties

Didn't mean it to sound that way Ben. I was just giving my opinion. I thought thats what you were after.

You are right Gordon. I am looking for opinions. And appreciate your input

I understand you know exactly what to expect with your gear. That’s kinda the point I’m trying to make.
Just wanted to point out that I’m in no way disrespecting your stuff . It’s all good.

You mentioned you have 6 matched sets. Is there one you pick up first or are they universal. Like number 3 caught that big tuna last year so it’s the special one or are they all the same to you?

I have double clips on the outriggers. That puts two on each side of the boat. The other two are flat lined right behind the boat at different length. All 6 are out at once. First one you grab is the first one that goes off and hope they don't tangle up.

It doesn't mess up to often. I should have made it a little clearer. You put all the rods out never knowing which one is going to get a fish first. No body actuly had a designated rod. Who is the closed to the rod that gets hit grabs it and reels it in. Bottom fishing everybody has there on rod so they bring there personal one. If they dont have one, I will supply one.

I just love to fish, hand me a pole put me in front of some water and I'll be happy. If u can't find a pond, creek, river, lake or ocean then fill up a bathtub I'll still be happy as long if there is fish in it. Don't worry fish more.

Well I would wear someone else's shoes🤗 beats the heck outa going bare footed, and I've used other people's rods to. Beats not fishing at all 👍 🎣 been known to borrow other stuff to.🤗 But I won't say I don't want to end up in the attic again.🙅
