It is a Daiwa reel made in Japan.

The bail and spring set up look a lot like a Mitchel 300. ?

No it’s a Daiwa reel not a Mitchell. Thanks for your effort though.

It's a Daiwa knockoff of a Mitchell 300. Sure looks like a 300 that someone painted an ugly shade of orange. Why do you think it's a Daiwa? Does it say so on it somewhere? Why not email those pictures to Daiwa and ask them to identify it?

As I recall though the 300 did not have an interchangeable crank, you either bought a lefty or a righty?

The one on the left is indeed a Diawa. It says so on the lower left of the reel. The one on the right is a Mitchell 300. That reel has the little reverse switch on the opposite end of the bail. The reel on the left has no such drag. 2 different reels in the photo.

Custom rebuilt with a Diawa tag! Lots of SS parts fixed to another reel frame?

It’s actually the same reel in both photos just pictured from both sides. If you enlarge
the picture on the left you can see a piece of the switch

Why did no one say anything about the poor paint job done to cover the original black?

And you can reverse the handle on this reel also. Does resemble a 300 though.
