I'I've been thinking about wading fishing for a while now and the thing that's been keeping me from doing it is the fact that i can't swim. I'm in louisiana and the river I'm going to has a muddy bottom I'm not sure how deep it is and I've never went and fished there before but I've watched a video of a guy wading the river so i know its shallow enough to wade (is that the singular word for wading?), i don't have any waders so i was thinking about putting on some shorts and my work boots to see if i like it. My biggest fear though isn't drowning due to the fact that i can't swim its being bitten by i copperhead, every time I've fished a river i always see a few swimming down it. Do they swim under the water to? If this river is like any other in LA and if they do i wouldn't be able to see them what if i step on one lol. I know a snake probably wouldn't go out of its way to bite me but I've heard copperheads are pretty aggresive, what if ones floating down the river behind me and bumps my leg then bites me hahahahaha that would be pretty funny but yea I'd really love to go wading and even if its not a good idea ill most likely end up trying it anyway.

edit: forgot about water moccasins i see those more often then copperheads

of course it is dangerous
you don't know the waters you would be wading.
sudden dropoffs currents etc
wear a life vest
if you can,go with experienced fisherman in that area
don't be fooled
that river could take your life

Biggest concern is not wildlife, biggest concern is drowning ! If you don't know how to swim yet ,don't go wade fishing !

You haven’t mentioned what age you are so it’s difficult for me to give you accurate information.. Fisherman who are learning to wade should do it with a experienced partner.., JMO...

Me thinks you should only do this with a life jacket/preserver on and with someone that can swim. Slippery in the water and does not much water to drown in. Do not recommend going in the water - stay on the shore and fish - still wear protective life saving gear and tell somebody where you will be and time you will be leaving fishing area.

No.
When in doubt, don't whip it out.
BE CONFIDENT in what you're doing before executing.

Although I've been there and communed with the 'Cajuns', I had to look that one up ! It's a mis-pronunciation of the original French word 'loup-garou', meaning werewolf (see photo) !
(Ain't he cute ?)

He was just mentioned on NCIS New Orleans the other night.

They killed off Lasalle that was a shocker.

Yeah, PB; thought he was going to pull through, but when he passed I nearly fell out of my chair ! I've been a fan of the series since day one and seldom miss an episode if I can help it ! Worst shocks of the series were Ari shooting Caitlin, his friend Sergei shooting Gibb's ex, Diane, both times right in front of him, and when Ziva was supposedly killed by the mortar attack ordered by Trent Cort ! The death of Lasalle was the fourth worst shock of the series ! Looks like Ziva will be in a few episodes this season, so maybe Tony won't be too far behind ! I sure do miss his humor and Gibb's head slaps !

Learn to swim. It's safe, easy and you are never too old to learn. On top of that, wear an inflatable life vest in the event you go into the drink. And as for the water snakes, they're so not gonna scale your boots or waders to get at ya- that's just silly. Go have some fun

In his case, the snakes are definitely a concern; he's talkin' about wading in shorts and hiking boots, a sure recipe for disaster in his particular environment !
