Well Dennis they did it with Trout mid last year I believe the time frame was and that brought up a stink tossing back some nice keepers. But we were catching 3 other species. Honestly last year around here just a few trout were being caught and like I say the recreational fishers put them back. But the netters that's just not fair them keeping everything.
But this year Stripers are being caught along with the flounder and in fear of being caught yes they are going back. And again the netters are keeping all that is caught. Don't know where this population extinction is happening it is definitely not in our part of the Pamlico. We are now depleting the trout stock that got built up because the keeper drum did not make it to our area this year. From everyone I talked to in many bait shops in the area it has only been puppy drum.

Consensus among us recreational fishers was to raise the legal size limit from 15" on the flounder and from 18" on the stripers in conjunction with changing the total for the day count.

I know it makes sense and I am just rambling on but it would be nice if whomever made the decisions actually went fishing to talk and listen to the folks who want to put a meal on the table.

Sadly that seems to apply to almost every facet of life these days.

I live here, it's sadly stupid, I really think that they think the fish are vacationers that tell their friends in the water to hang around or come back to this beach. The fish tell their buddies in the water if you're caught don't worry about it, they have to put you back in.

Just shut the recreational folks down first, like we catch and keep so many fish! Bet it takes attorneys to shut down commercial and IFQ side!

It's been 18" on (Fluke) flounder and 28" on Stripers for quite a while up here in Jersey.

I agree with PB and OZ.....I think the politicians are getting their pockets stuffed by the larger harvest boats and the small guy, who just wants a tasty meal and the enjoyment of fishing, has to pay the price by getting cut out of the deal altogether.
