I usually use six ingredients in my punch bait. It's good stuff but I got to wondering how many ingredients I really need to make a bait that works equally well or even better. After some expermentation I have my answer. Two. That's all. Twenty four year old cheese trimmings and cat tail fluff. That's it. BUT...it gets better. Does the cheese have to be so old? Nope. Does it have to be cheese trimmings that cost an arm and leg not to mention shipping that costs the other arm and leg plus other parts? Nope. Condensed cheddar cheese soup and cat tail fluff works just fine. Fresh is almost as good as aged but if you give it a week in a hot place with a cover over it to keep beasties out...it's good punch. A heck of a lot cheaper too.

I'm not really surprised. My sponge bait is just cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk and a little water (preferably water from the place you're fishing) mixed to a thick, creamy consistency that a sponge will absorb.

Carp? On sponge bait and punch bait?

No that's channel cat bait.

For carp I use boilies on hair rigs, corn on size four or six j hooks or night crawlers..

Carp. Not a bad idea. Its only a bit past eleven pm now, I'm hurting too much to sleep...I think I'll cook up some boilies and go carp fishing tomorrow. Be the first time for carp this year. I've got a 6'6" light action rod I've never used. Sounds like a plan

Thanks for the idea.

I've taken a ton of carp bowfishing when I was younger. I've even tried to eat them, I just wasn't hungry enough. I have never baited a hook with the intention of catching a carp. I have caught them & I love the fight they put up. If you fish for them I hope you catch a trophy. Good luck.

Didn't get to go. Legs hurt so bad that the best I could do was a slow hobble. Got the pole setup tho. Also setup my old Abu Garcia low profile Ambasadure bait caster. Maybe today or Saturday.

I eat carp now and then. Not bad if you know how to cook them. Pretty good smoked or canned. Good on crackers and washed down with icy cold Guinness. I like it baked. Pretty oily even then. Smoking or canning takes care if that. Gotta rid it of "the mud vein" however you cook it. Terrible if you don't get rid of that.

Recipe for carp! Skin it, nail it to a hardwood plank, salt, pepper, a little garlic powder. 350 degree oven for 20 min. Throw the fish away and eat the plank!

Must be fun with one of those old reels.
On spinning reels I lock down the drag and back reel when fighting a big one. Reel fun

I've gotta see if I can find one of those old reels after the world settles down if I still feel like fishing.
