I’m just getting into bass fishing after not having done it in years. I currently have a couple of set-ups. A MH spinner Abu Black Max and a Lews Mach 1, also MH. I plan on slowly picking up some other set-ups as I can. But how many rod/reel set-ups do ya’ll keep in active rotation?

I have eight and it seems to be one more than I really need. One of them just never leaves the box, but I know some people can find up to 20 useful. I don't quite get that myself, but to each their own.

I don't think you need to go too crazy, I think a lot of guys get carried away. Of course, the more you fish you'll find advantages to having more set ups for specific applications, but I think 3 is a good place to start. Three good baitcasting set ups can cover pretty much anything pretty well in my experience. The rod I find myself using most often is something like a 7' medium heavy fast action with a medium/high speed reel. That works good for jigs/plastics/spinnerbaits/ pitching to light cover etc. Also, I like to have a rather beefy heavy power rod for things like flipping heavy cover or frog fishing heavy weeds, with a reel powerful enough to wench fish out of cover. And then lastly, a shorter rod in the 6' to 6' 6" medium power, x fast action for jerk baits/topwaters/ other lighter applications. For that set up I would want a high speed reel. But of course, it also depends on how you like to fish. Those set ups worked for me, because I like to fish using a variety of techniques. I suggest thinking about the types of baits you use the most and do some research on what set ups might pair well with them. Of course, people have different opinions on everything so try not to get too caught up in getting all the perfect set ups. Just make sure you have your bases covered and have equipment capable of fishing the way you want to fish.

Probably the best thing to do is figure out exactly which techniques you want to use and are actually going to employ. From there you can work out what type of setups to add to the arsenal.

22, but it's complete overkill and a lot of them were from when I was still figuring it all out. I really only use 5 of my setups regularly.

Way too many But I always have these 5

- Jig Rod / Worm

- Cranking Rod

- Finesse Rod

- Swimbait Rod

- Spinnerbait Rod

Now depending on time of year I may have up to 4 cranking rods. Or 3 different swimbait rods

Seven. Three bait cast (two round level winds and one low profile) and four spinning reels. Three of the rods are medium heavy the other four medium.

Now and then I'll use an ultra light for panfish either for eating myself or for feeding to kitty fish.

Well at one time i had around 500 reels and a bunch of rods. Wife said i have a reel problem so sold most kept what was needed 20 outfits will work. LOL

i have 36, approximately 50/50 for bait casters and spinning, different length, strength, brands, uses such as jig, crank bait, worm, etc. I just pick them up when I find a good sale or clearance deal, throughout the year I usually use all of them

I seldom have more than 4 set up, all different. I have rod boxes on my boat & keep several rods if I needed them, mostly baitcasting rods but spinning rods & ultra lite spinning that i use for bluegills & red ears. I keep extra reels on board also. I firmly believe that even though a man can't use but 1 rod at a time he can never have too many. That's my opinion.
