I took a break from chasing ( unsuccessfully ) , big carp at Phelps pond, and did some early morning fishing at a friend's pond . On a whim I used an old Johnson Beetle Spin that a friend had given me 20 years ago.
From the pier, surprisingly, I caught several small bass between 7 and 9 am . Nothing large but they were spirited bass that jumped and put up a nice fight. I haven't had much luck with a Beetle Spin lure at other locations but reeling it slowly with random jerks worked at this 5 acre pond.

Good catching J. That pond has some nice bass, maybe a large one is in there too.

Nice catching J. I have 1 old one I occasionally throw for Crappie. They still work. Thanks for the pictures.

In this case Jross, size doesn't matter. The tug and the catch are the bonus. Nice going.

Nice J, those old beetle spins at times can be killers on crappies. As a bonus, they’ll also get the attention of bass and snot rockets. They’re an old standby.

Good report and a fun change of pace for you to go after those bass! Great idea to pull out that "old" lure and give the bass a treat that they have probably not seen in a while!

Thanks DV !
There are some huge LMs in the pond, hopefully we'll take the boat out soon and chase them down.
There are catfish and some nice bluegill in the pond too, a day of fishing with nightcrawlers may be a lot of fun

Thanks plumbob, it was definitely a really fun morning and I'm trying to learn how to fish different lures. So this was a good experience for me

Thanks Fishyaker, I think that was the case at this pond as the bass there may have never seen a beetle Spin
