After 5 bad fishing 🎣 trips in 5 different spots with 90 to 96 degrees water the past 5 evenings, I went fishing in 90 degree Gropp’s Lake this evening on a hot, humid, sunny day with a strong south wind. Threw out corn 🌽 for chum, then hooked a big fish 🐟 on my first cast with canned whole kernel corn 🌽 bait. After a long fight, the fish 🐠 threw the hook. Caught and released a male bluegill, musk turtle 🐢 and 11.25 lbs snapping turtle 🐢. Another fisherman arrived late in the day. I removed a lot of moss from my spot. Maybe I’ll return tomorrow.

Glad that you broke that "short streak" of unproductive days NJ219! In the high heat with warm water lakes fishing can definitely be a challenge! I'll bet that big fish was a carp...awaiting your return!

That looks like one, unhappy, perhaps totally pissed snapping turtle.

I want to know how you get them off of your hook, other than “VERY CAREFULLY”.

I use a very long, sturdy tree branch.

It's a shame you missed the big one, but it's a good sign when they take the first cast.
Serious looking turtle, those snappers can be a handful, especially that large.
Good luck on your next streak !

Nice going Bands, you’ll eventually catch that big one that came unhooked. Nice looking turtle and fish too.

Heading back to the boat launch yesterday I said to my son that was driving the boat; there is a log floating ahead. When we got closer, it was either a beaver, otter or groundhog (not sure if groundhogs swim like that). It had a furry brown head, but the weird thing was it was in the middle of one of the widest parts of the lake. I should have gotten a pic of it.
