This year has been kind of slow for me in my main objection, which is striped bass in the surf. I live a block away from the beach so every spare moment I hike on down to the hole I haunt the most and do my best to hunt a hog. This year I've had days of 3 to 10 fish but I can't seem to hook up on one of the cows pushing the 20 to 25 lb mark I've been mainly fishing s&p minnows of diffrent colors I was wondering if anyone out there had any tips for how to target the hose elusive hogs

Hi. I used to live in Daly City and surf fished from beaches in Marin co. all the way to Monterey Bay. It's mostly luck or right-place-right-time for big bass. I've caught most of my 20lbs+ fish in the SF bay on live bait drifted from a boat. My larger fish from the surf were caught on hair jigs, Mickey jigs (metal squid), and Gibbs Pencil Poppers. Muscle Rocks in DC is great at times and the south side of the rock jetty at Half Moon Bay can be good - stripers will push bait into that corner of the beach. See photo of classic lure collection for the surf. GOOD LUCK!!!
