Hey everyone, I’m new to the forum. I hope this is the right spot to ask questions about a very specific region.

This coming weekend I am heading out on a backpacking trip which I haven’t done in about 25 years. We are starting at Horseshoe Meadow in the Eastern Sierras outside of Lone Pine. We’re essentially doing the ‘Trail Pass to Cottonwood Lakes Loop’ on AllTrails.
Our 5 night trek will take us up cottonwood pass to Chicken Spring lake, then over to Soldier Lake, over New Army Pass, down to South Fork Lake, and then back to the car at Horseshoe Meadow.
I know Chicken Spring lake is fishless, so my fishing questions are mostly about Soldier Lake and then about any of the other lakes in the Cottonwood lakes area (High Lake, Long Lake, South Fork, and Cirque).
25 years ago we caught plenty of fish at Soldier lake and South Fork, but as decades passed, I’m wondering if these are still decent spots to catch GT.

I know Cottonwood Lakes #1-4 are closed for fishing until Sept 1, and the hike over to #5 might be too far out of the way since we are planning to camp at at South Fork.

TL;DR: I’d like some input on the fishing reports for :Soldier Lake, High Lake, Long Lake, South Fork Lake, Cirque Lake, or any and all other lakes/streams/tributaries along the trails from Horseshoe meadow, over cottonwood pass and through New Army Pass back to Horseshoe Meadow.

If you made it this far, I really appreciate you reading, and look forward to your input!!

Welcome to the forum. Wish I could help but it’s been about 45 years since I backpacked in that area. The fishing used to be great. Have no idea what it’s like now. Please post some pictures of your trip, would love to see that country again. Good luck!

I didn't see a date on the report, but Western Outdoor News says all of the Bishop Basin high country areas are great. South Lake had fish to 7lbs., the inlet at Lake Sabrina is hot, (someone caught a 6lb brown at the inlet of Lake Sabrin), and Bishop Creek is stocked. I haven't been there in 40 years, so I'd love some pics too.
Good luck and have fun!

I am jealous, haven’t caught a golden trout in years. I watch the weather report for Kennedy Meadows it will be warm high 80s this week cooling done to high 70s by Friday. Take it easy, drink lots of water jump in the lake and enjoy. I used hopper patterns mostly but found they would take most any thing that hit the water. Don’t let the jets from China Lake scare you.
