Fished this morning on Blue Marsh Lake. Caught 6 channel cats, 1 small LM, and 3 sunnies. Caught all the fish on nightcrawlers.

It was mostly sunny with the water and air temps in the 80s. It was a nice morning to be fishing.

Nice channels DV! Though my dad wasn’t a fisherman(but an extreme hunter) he’d take me down to the Delaware river to catch bullheads and channels. They were his absolute favorites.

Nice fish DV !
Are you fishing on the bottom only, or are you catching sunfish and bass on top and cats on the bottom ?

Thanks BK!

That sounds like good memories of fishing with your father, and I bet you have good memories of hunting with him too.

Since you mentioned a river, and so far, I have caught bigger fish in the nearby Susquehanna River through the years than I have caught in Blue Marsh Lake.

Cats are fun to catch and bite the most of all the types/species of fish I caught in Blue Marsh Lake. So, whatever bites is fine with me, but of course the bigger the better.

Thanks Jross!

Last year I fished on the bottom with a slip sinker when using nightcrawlers.

This year I have been fishing weightless (no sinker-no bobber). I have caught cats close to shore in a few feet of water and in deeper water down to 25‘. This year, at the same time I’m catching channel and yellow bullhead cats (1st yellow I caught was last week), I have caught LMs, carp, perch and sunnies. So, I just don’t know what I’m going to catch on each cast.

Thanks!

I do on occasion cast many different types of lures, both soft and hard. Have not tried dingers, senko’s or ned’s, but have a bunch in my tackle bag. Also, I troll with different size lures for stripers, and larger lures for northerns and muskies, but have not had any luck with any of those lures at Blue Marsh Lake.

Nice going DV. Some fine looking cats there are they keepers to you or returns for another day? Either way great day was had.

Oh by the way I haven't seen a ruler like that since the late 60's. I bet it floats too.

Thanks Plumbob and thanks for the reply.

It was a nice sunny morning, and caught a few fish, that’s all good for me.

Everything goes back in the water to be caught another day by someone, unless someone with me or any other person wants the fish they can have them. I gave many fish away through the years.

Lol…I did have a floating ruler with legal and illegal measurements on opposite sides, had it for many years, my son has it now. Not too long ago someone posted on the stage about them, and many pics showed up of people having them. The ones I have now I picked up at Home Depot, have broken a few in the excitement of the catch though.

And Thank you too DV for the reply. I was just curious on your keeping of the cats or not. They were some healthy looking great tasting catches there. Where I have been catching them they went back given the area they were caught a lot of commercial / industrial boats around. Personally I like catfish and Gordon has displayed many a good looking dinners tempting my taste buds by way of pics.

Your ruler, well that just brought up many memories of my starting out as a plumbers helper back in the 60's. Can still see in my mind working track houses / row homes pulling out the ruler taking measurements. The one that was always tricky was measuring for shower curtain rods. Sometimes would get a little bow in that 5' measurement.
