Brownlee Reservoir - Skunked!
Idaho Fishing

Spent several hours on the Idaho side of the reservoir today fishing with worms from the bank. Not one single fish caught and only two dinky bites. Rude people plopping down on the shore right next to us with kids, paddle boards, etc. Total disrespect for folks fishing. Was in the same spot last year (water a lot lower then) and caught a bazillion smallmouth bass and catfish that were all released.

Won’t go here again on a holiday weekend… :-(

Good choice k7txa, re: holiday weekends. Anyway, Welcome to the Stage. You'll find the folks here are much better than those people with the kids, we're pretty good about outdoor etiquette here ......

Thats a bummer K. Wife and I were gonna take the boat to Brownlee on Thursday and decided against it due to it probably being a madhouse. Looks like we made the right choice. I always stay home on the holiday weekends.

Decades ago, we got tired of the mad rush for camping spots, etc and adopted that policy.

Bummer. I mowed and edged the lawn on the 4th. No crowds at all. And I now have a day free to go fishing after the weekend. On top of that I enjoyed a nice late afternoon BBQ.

Ewwww - mowing and edging! Too hot for that here. Opted for a family cherry picking trip this morning to Emmett, ID. Super sweet and juicy. I can almost taste the cherry pie now. :-)

That’s about exactly what I did. Thursday is my mowing day anyway. I don’t like doing yard work on the weekends. That’s for fishing and dirt bikin! I also did some motorcycle maintenance, front brakes on the wife’s car, and rib eyes on the grill.

Was just below you at the head waters of Oxbow Res and caught around 15-20 smallies. We got 2 that were above the minimum of 16" and one rainbow. They tasted delicious! Not one piece left on the plate! Used worms right beside the crazy people splashing around.

Dang - looks like ID rte 71 crosses over into OR then becomes OR 86 by the time it gets to Oxbow, so my ID license isn't any good there. Crud.

No, we fished McCormack Park, on the Idaho side. No need for an out of state license.

I have not gotten to Brownlee for years, and probably won't in the future, but I truly appreciate you sharing your details. That kind of sharing is so positive for this site. Thank you so much for your input.

DarrellB - did you fish there at McCormack Park, or further down the river? And after you turn off of ID71, is is dirt or paved road to the park?

We fished at McCormack Park, right where Wildhorse River ( really just a small creek) enters the Snake. It is gravel but will maintained. Parked in the park overflow.
