DavM55 here. New to site. Retired mechanical engineer. Looking for some decent shoreline fishing spots to go to with the grand kids. Don't have a boat now and haven't convinced my son-in-law to buy one yet. Lake Pepin area looks interesting.

Welcome! The best advice I could give you is to check MnDnr website. Know the counties and using a map some lakes you might be close to. Go to dnlakefinder that will give all the information you need including fish species, and fishing piers availability on that particular lake. Hope this helps…Good luck to you and the grand-kids.

Thanks much. Will start investigating. Land of 10,000 lakes and not one in Olmsted county. LOL

As far as Lake Pepin goes, I know some people like to shore fish around where 'Pearl of the Lake' used to be, (The Ferry Boat), down by Central Point Road and Highway 61. I'm sure there's got to be some sunfish & perch around there. Perfect for kids!

I think they have the Silver Creek Reservoir in Rochester, and that's probably about it. I've never fished it, so I can't say whether it's worthwhile or not?

Thanks much. See it on the map. Will have to check it out.
Anyone heard of the "Best Dam Fishing Float" @ lock and dam #7 on the Mississippi in La Crescent, MN.? Wonder if it's any good or just a gimmick?

You're welcome. If you try Silver Creek out, I'd love to hear how it was? I occasionally get down that way, and wouldn't mind trying it, if it's worthwhile. Thanks.

Not sure about that particular fishing float, but I do know I was watching a fishing show, a couple of years ago, where they had a pro fishing tournament right down in that area. I would imagine there's got to be some good spots around there.....however, with all this rain, and the Mississippi above flood stage, in a lot of areas, you might want to call someone and ask if you can even fish there, at the moment?! My usual spot on the Mississippi, in South Saint Paul, is WAY over flood stage, right now!
