Inspired by “Old Bass Guy”

I used to fish a lot, but 8 years ago “life” dictated other priorities for me. This bass, probably about 1 3/4 lbs, is a “kissin’ cousin” to the one posted a couple days ago caught by “Old Bass Guy” (I think that’s what his handle was) at San Vicente Reservoir in San Diego County, very close to Lakeside. Inspired by “Old Bass Guy’s” picture, I decided it was finally time to drag out the fishing equipment and tell life to go to Hell; I was going fishing! To increase storage for water-starved San Diego, they raised the San Vicente dam by 117 feet a number of years ago. So all of the facilities at the lake are relatively new and modern…..very impressive. My son and I rented a boat and hit the water for the “late bite” yesterday. It was kind of an exploratory/learning trip, but we had some decent hook-ups and got a few into the boat once we “learned the lay” of the lake. And the post-trip dinner at Casa de Pico restaurant in nearby La Mesa wasn’t bad either!

Even though you have not fished for a while you did good catching that nice bass. Nice too that you enjoyed the day with your son. Keep on catching.

Looks like you still got the touch SDJayhawk. Hope you get to get out on the water even more as the season continues.

Nice!!
San V has changed with the dam being raised. No more Chimney, no more fishing the structure off of butt rock or the channel between the Island and grassy bay. Or sight fishing the flats in the aqueduct arm.
Still one hell of a fishery.
Thanks for sharing.

Congrats Jayhawk!! Garey (Old Bass Guy) can be real inspirational at times (when he’s not telling wild tales, or maybe when he is!)
