My friend Bill came to Cortez this week from Moab and he and I went fishing. 3 days of being out. He likes our local Lake and since we met on the stage he has come down 4 times now. Bill is 85. He has an 18 and half foot Lund deep V boat and I suspicion that part of his reason for asking me along is to not have to do the work of loading and unloading alone. Wednesday we started out trolling some crank baits he had found. I hooked into a nice rainbow first off that threw the hook at the boat. A little later I caught a nice yellow perch and that was it for the day. Bill doesn’t last more than 5 or 6 hours before needing to rest. Thursday was our best. Lost 3 or 4 and boated 4. My thanks to Andys from the Stage for teaching me about Gulp minnows.😁 The pics are from Thursday. Yesterday Bill and I went out to the same cove and caught a couple then Bill wanted to try trolling again which turned into a bust. So Bill went home yesterday afternoon, I have at least 3 fresh trout dinners and a new memory complete with the fact that Ole Stripey 🦨 lost again….

They do come in different colors. The ones I have seen here have either brown backs or black ones. The black ones have worked for me. I have drop shotted them and caught bluegill and a largemouth with Jim, and this time I put one on a 1/16 Oz. Chartreuse jighead and swam it very slowly thru the water. They aren’t exactly cheap but they do catch fish. I dunno what names they give to the different colors. I haven’t paid that close attention.

Thanks Wulffy, can't say I have seen the fresh water colors you mention. Pink, yellow and white have been my go to at times in salt water when the Z man baits aren't working. They don't last to long and salt water trout seem to prefer to nip the tails off. But flounder swallow the whole bait.

Nice report and pics Mike. Sounds like Y'all had a great few trips. Mind me asking what Bills Stage name is?

As far as I can remember it’s William Love. He doesn’t spend much time here. It was a case of wanting fishing reports and not finding them I believe.
