Here on the California delta you fish alone and you are a guy. They find your pick up truck in Idaho. Your wallet in Reno and never find you. But the police keep real quiet about it.

It grieves me that a pastime as benign as fishing is as perilous as walking down a dark alley in a city. Our peace and tranquillity has been shattered and the level of animosity has grown to epic proportions. There are millions of GOOD people who have to live their lives in constant preparedness for self defense. Whatever the means. All any of us can do it seems is to bring the light of kindness and care for one another into our small corners of existence. I am a widower and I live alone. Thankfully in a very small community. I try to spend my time being aware of what goes on around me and to lend myself to being available to anyone in need. I fish. Mostly alone. I do not arm myself. I have nothing against those who do. I am glad there is still the freedom to do that. I try to vote in such a way as to protect that freedom. I am rather cynical about the effect of my voice. We who are the backbone of freedom in this country must find a way to be heard above the noise made by those who would trample our God given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Bless all of you for your concerns. Go out and catch a fish ASAP! Graywulff

Concealed Carry Permit, and snap pics of license plates before you exit vehicle. Text pic to someone and be ready to show that text has been send if approached. If armed, state that you are prepared to defend yourself and relate that text has been sent when you feel uncomfortable. Makes me sick to hear about this crap, so sorry you have to deal with it.

I’m a 68 year old man that has been fishing all his life and fly fishing for 30 plus years. I have a son and daughter and in spite of much exposure to fishing and fishing private water they only show a mild interest. I have helped newbies both male and female, young and old become acquainted with a past time I have grown to love. So as a fa father and uncle I will suggest that while extremely unjust women need to be ever vigilant of their situation and surroundings to remain safe. This not to say that you should be fearful and not get out there but isolated location do offer additional risk. Yuck I hate that. I don’t know where you live but I’m sure there are other women near you that fish and would welcome you to the fold. There are also a lot of men, decent men, who would be happy to include you. I’m in Northern Colorado and I’m always interested in new fishing buddies. Be smart and get out there.

Let's assume he went there to fish...just sayin...now, if his actions were indicative of his fishing ability... you couldn't have been safer...he couldn't catch a cold in a flu ward... there is stupid then there is him... not making light of what transpired...my best to you

Hey Wes,
What that jerk did was and is completely wrong bordering on being criminal. No one should have to go through that. Clearly he was threatening her. My response was intended to comment on his actions, not hers and if it offended you or anyone else, my apologies

There are bad people who love to fish to. They will be bad when and wherever the opportunity is presented to them. Be always watchful and find classes to help you with that, and every self defense coarse you can find and afford. When my daughter was 6 years old a friend who just happened to be a third degree Black belt holder in I have forgotten what, started teaching her. Twice in two weeks, when I came home from work she laid me out in the living room floor. After that she was not allowed to practice on her Daddy.

I hate that this has happened to you, but you really do need to protect yourself, like others have said, gun, dog or both.
