Yes but you dont know if someone is a psycho when they're 20’ away. They're usually inches away before they make their intentions Known.

Staying in the vehicle was good thinking on your part, but what if you were on the stream and the creep shows up. Open carry if you state allows or CCW. Get a M&P EZ 380 and learn to use it. They are light, easy to carry, easy to use and not a toy. Stay safe and keep fishing!

Yep ! The .380 is definitely better than a .25 for stopping power, especially if they're a larger person; some large people have been known to take several hits from calibers much larger than a .25 and still keep coming ! Get the largest one you're comfortable with as you want all the stopping power you can get ! Just get familiar with it first, and get enough practice to be reasonably accurate; it won't do you much good if you can't hit your mark !

A big well trained dog is a huge deterrent to persons (if they can be called that) that prey on helpless appearing women.
My grand daughter has a Rottweiler ,huge but gentil until she gives a command, he goes fishing with her and just lays by her side and loves being there..
Pepper spray works too when the wind is right, it will take care of things till you can get away.
push em in the water, cause people like that prolly don't bath regularly and don't like water ,lol.
Mr Bill.....

I feel sorry for you and all the ladies. You did well. I would suggest that you "carry" when going out on your own. If it comes to it , better in jail than in a pine box or becoming an invalid because of some idiot. I will pray for your safety. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of all ladies who enjoy the outdoors as you do.

Regarding possible consequences for the use of deadly force in self-defence - " Better to be judged by twelve than be carried by six " !

Please don’t dress πŸ‘— like Daisy Duke, if you do, you might be looking for trouble being by yourself all alone! Please go in a group, you have a better chance that nothing will happen. No women needs to be outdoors away from home all by there self in this upside down world 🌍 we live in. This happens all the time, read the news, watch the news, this is not a new thing what is going on! Look at our college females who go threw this every year! Just a thought πŸ’. You have to be locked and loaded at all times! Twelve or six, you call the shots!

Welcome Strange3. I am so sorry that this happened to you. As a man I do not put myself in those situations and I carry a firearm and have a license. I fish alone a lot but I use a boat for that reason. Even as a man we can be in a bad situation. If your are ever in Alabama I will be glad to take you and will even ignore you to make you feel that your alone. I live in the middle of the state just above the state capitol Montgomery. Alabama Bill

Get a small automatic fire arm and learn to shoot it. A nice German Shepherd is easy to have trained to be defensive for you. The dog alone may be enough. If someone ask if he will bite tell them he is an attack dog by command.

I'm a pint sized passionate female angler. This afternoon I was made to feel uneasy in one of the only places I feel comfortable fishing alone. I always tell someone where I'm going, just in case. This particular place is a side road just outside of town that almost no one fishes. Probably because of the trek to get down to the creek. I've only ever seen one older gentleman fly fishing there and we had a pleasant interaction.

So I'm sitting in my car getting organized when a pickup slowly pulls up alongside me then parks infront of me. This is rather unusual I thought, so I decided to stay in my car and see what unfolds.

He's just sitting in his truck smoking, he has glanced at me a few times. He then proceeds to get out and walk around back of his truck bed. Just standing there smoking. So at this point I decide I'm not going to fish my beloved slice of paradise. I waited a few minutes then started my car, pulled a u-turn to head in the opposite direction. I did not act hastily but I did watch him in my rearview mirror.

He headed back to the driver seat, started his vehicle and proceeded to follow me. Thankfully I know my region well, I drove in the direction where I knew there was a residental area. Pulled into a driveway and hoped he would keep on trucking. He did.

Now this leaves me rather upset and unsure how to feel about going back there alone. It's not easy being female in a predominantly Male driven sport. I've been laughed at, gawked at, hit on and treated like an idiot while fishing my local tributaries. At times it really puts me off of something I love to do.

If you have made it this far thank you for reading. If you have any tips or advice short of finding someone to fish with me, I would love to hear it. I enjoy spending time alone in nature as it's therapeutic to me.

As a husband and a father I am very concerned with these type of people. As stated before you handled the situation correctly. I have daughters that are teenagers and love the outdoors. I always hunt and fish very closely to them. I live in northern Wisconsin and have personally run into people in the middle of nowhere. Most times they are great people sharing my same passions, but also have run into people who have made me feel very uncomfortable. I have a concealed carry permit and always carry my weapon. It's unfortunate that we have worry about these types of situations, but it is the reality nowadays. Stay safe and enjoy future fishing.

I am former military and retired civilian law enforcement but most of all a father of 4 of which 3 are daughters.
The best suggestion is for you to have a partner at all times to fish with and you BOTH carry firearms.
The world is full of wonderful things and fishing is one of them! But unfortunately there are people who will cause your fishing trip to be a nightmare or create nightmares for your loved ones if you don’t survive.
Be aware of your surroundings and stay with your partner. After 26 years of wearing the uniform I can assure you that 99% of the time you will be the one that must preserve yourself and your loved ones.
Lastly, consider investing in a boat...it more often than not will remove you from some of the yahoos Lurking around and always have a partner!
God Bless and happy fishing!

Good idea with the boat, but not practical fishing trout streams and not a guarantee of safety as some of these jerks (two or more) may also be in one on a remote lake or pond !
Best advice ?
BE PREPARED !
