Do not conceal it , letting it be seen is deterring enough for most. But don't carry at all if you can't use it when needed. Good luck and tight lines.

I see a lot of good ideas, short of the one I suggested to my daughter and other female relatives: if you feel threatened, go directly to the authorities and report it! If you can, get a description, a license plate, and other details (time, location, obviously). Don't avoid and accept dangerous situations like these: put the people whose business it is to fix stuff like this to work. Don't accept or condone threatening situations!

There are just days I am embarrassed to be a male. Not that I would be anything else but there just seam to be too many creeps. And creeps cross all types. You should really not have to carry a gun in a civilized society. Nor should a women, man or child fear fishing, hiking, running, or just relaxing in their favorite spot. Not sure what has happened but this country has gone to heck in a hand basket. It was never perfect , just seems worse now. Respect of others has disappeared amongst most of us. Off my sandbox.

I'm a pint sized passionate female angler. This afternoon I was made to feel uneasy in one of the only places I feel comfortable fishing alone. I always tell someone where I'm going, just in case. This particular place is a side road just outside of town that almost no one fishes. Probably because of the trek to get down to the creek. I've only ever seen one older gentleman fly fishing there and we had a pleasant interaction.

So I'm sitting in my car getting organized when a pickup slowly pulls up alongside me then parks infront of me. This is rather unusual I thought, so I decided to stay in my car and see what unfolds.

He's just sitting in his truck smoking, he has glanced at me a few times. He then proceeds to get out and walk around back of his truck bed. Just standing there smoking. So at this point I decide I'm not going to fish my beloved slice of paradise. I waited a few minutes then started my car, pulled a u-turn to head in the opposite direction. I did not act hastily but I did watch him in my rearview mirror.

He headed back to the driver seat, started his vehicle and proceeded to follow me. Thankfully I know my region well, I drove in the direction where I knew there was a residental area. Pulled into a driveway and hoped he would keep on trucking. He did.

Now this leaves me rather upset and unsure how to feel about going back there alone. It's not easy being female in a predominantly Male driven sport. I've been laughed at, gawked at, hit on and treated like an idiot while fishing my local tributaries. At times it really puts me off of something I love to do.

If you have made it this far thank you for reading. If you have any tips or advice short of finding someone to fish with me, I would love to hear it. I enjoy spending time alone in nature as it's therapeutic to me.

Get your handgun permit and start packing. Since you’re petite think small, .25 caliber might be perfect for you.

I also enjoy fishing alone. Go to a public lake & am afraid to try the more secluded spots. Where I fish is out in the open and the areas are fished alot. If that had happened to me, would not have got out of car also and that was quick thinking you pulling into a residential area. But if you want to back to your more secluded spot, go with someone. That person may have noticed you before. How did he know you were going to fish there. Also you could have jotted down his license plate before you pulled out. I also have a couple of handguns (one is a deringer). I'm not sure if it is still legal to bring one with me because of all the recent killings in the news. In case of emergency I keep a car phone in case I can call AAA. It's a shame you will lose your fishing spot. Guess you might have to start fishing in a public lake or maybe find some one who has a fishing pond that you could try out.

I would love to go out fishing with you. First let me say I am a happily married man of 25 years, and I love my wife more every day. I love to fish, and even more I love creeps. There are two kinds of people in this world, the kind that pull in their driveway and see the garage door open and think, "Oh I hope there is nobody in my garage" Then there are people like me who think, "Oh I hope someone is in my garage, and I just caught them in the act" Now being 6'5" 235lbs Texas pistol lacking tattooed bicker that breaks idiots for a living this this is one of my favorite opportunities. And let me apologize for the many of my counterparts that don't have the brains that God gave a wooden duck. The problem is that most of the stupid don't know that their stupid, so sometimes we have to explain it to them in terms that they can understand. You should never be run off from any place you want to be, never! I don't care who you are, man, woman, child, black, white, blue, green, purple, or if you worship a head of lettuce, you have the right to do as you dam well please or I did two tours in Desert Storm watching my friends die for nothing, and I don't like to think that. Your an outdoors girl, so you can't be totally helpless, so expand on what you know. Some self defense classes never hurt anyone other than someone who messed with someone who has training in self defense. ( I just love watching my little girl make hamburger out of a grown man! :) These guy look for an easy target, show them that your not going to be a victim. Cary a gun if your hart and state will allow it, if not find an equalizer that fits you, but please don't let some freak stop you from doing what you love to do. I wish you all the best, be careful.

NOW, To any of my brothers, vetrens, ladies who can handle themselves out there who see a woman alone, watch out for her. Maybe say hello, and let her know she is not totally alone, and there are a few good men and women left who will not tolerate anyone who intimidates any other person. Period! Thank you. KT.

Look into Bond firearms... great handguns for self defense. Learn how to use it . Take firearms courses. Also, think about taking a self defense class or join an MMA gym or martial arts studio. I have a 6 year old daughter... she WILL be starting jujitsu & karate when she turns 8, and will be learning how to shoot by 10. It’s a crazy world out there these days... be prepared! Keep fishing 🎣

Strang3trails. I agree with many of the previous comments and lament the fact we have to be on guard at ALL times in this troubled world. If possible I would also suggest legally carrying a firearm and pepper spray. Another thing that works and has been suggested as protection near your bed is Wasp Spray. That stuff can be fired 20 feet or more and is a foam. Hit someone in the eyes with that and you can pretty much do anything you want to with them! It does not blow back on you in the wind like pepper spray can and you would NOT want to use pepper spray in an enclosed area like the bedroom! Also, UNFORTUNATELY you can NOT assume you are safe just because you are accompanied by another woman or even a man. A good dog is also a big help but if someone is armed they can disable your prized pet very easily. I know it sucks but we have to face reality. With all the illegal entries and lack of morals out there we are in a whole different world it seems. The deranged mental free ranging lunatics are allowed to roam free, released if arrested and protected by the Sanctuary Cities to break the laws again! Our Second Amendment is under attack like never before and we have to protect ourselves however legally possible. Good Luck and Good Fishing!!!

since you are a female,I suggest you find a partner(male or female)
there are crazies out there
It might also be a good idea to carry a can of mace when you go fishing
fits in your pocket and easy to get out

Yes, I think a dog is another great idea. I have a sweet, gentle, goofy female boxer... that said, if I am out of town for a couple of days and my wife and daughter are home alone, I KNOW that they are safe! That cute boxer ( I’ve seen it ), will attack in a dime when she thinks that our home is in jeopardy. She will lay down her life to protect us. Nothing better than having a loyal friend by your side while catching a few fish.... 🎣
