I just wanted to post some pics and maybe get a little fishing report rolling. A retired buddy of mine and I had a really good day last Thurs. June 8th. Didn't expect much since we haven't really been doing well here but it is close. Day was mostly overcast and even rained on us a little. During that time we got a couple bass apiece, a couple catfish, and of course bluegill. As the weather broke and sun came out around 11 am, we pretty much accidentally stumbled upon some schools of striped or white bass along the east side opposite the marina. Kept getting hits at about 10-12 feet in about 22 ft of water. Early used 6 inch red worm for the later actually matched a yellow jig head with a pink curly tail grub.
Posted a few bragging pics, but all total we landed about 20 fish, with a couple LGmth, and about 6 Striper/White Bass between 1.2 and 1.5 lbs.

Nice catching Bucket. Sounds like a fun day despite the rain, and a nice variety of fish too. Thanks for the pictures.

Bucket - ain't that great? Push through the grind until you see daylight (literally) and you're rewarded for your effort. Congratulations on some great catching!👍🎣
Heck yeah. I only live from ten minutes from blue springs lake. Bank fish the dam. Catch a few sunfish and bass. Nice catch folks 👌

I wouldn't argue that, I used to call them ALL stipers, but have lately been trying to separate out. Nice they all travel together. Don't know if I mentioned on fishfinder it looked like a big mass(school) going by on screen.
Bucket, I have a really difficult time catching anything up here. I retired and moved up here only to realize how hard the fishing would be. Great catch!! It gives me some hope, thanks for posting.
I used too fish that area and I never had trouble getting into fish. I used to fish Lake Jacomo more than Blue Springs lake but I found some patterns that worked in both lakes. One thing that is great to try that will work for several types of fish is too fish shad imitating lures like spoons, shad imitating swim baits, or lipless crankbaits. These lures will let you cover lots of water quickly and catch several different types of fish. This will help you find biting fish much quicker than most ways of fishing. Another thing that helps at both lakes is too use lighter line than you would normally use at other lakes. The reason for this is both lakes have been infested with zebra mussels and that has made both lakes have much clearer water than most other lakes in the area. The last thing that will help is simply don't fish too long or too slowly in one spot. If you don't get bit in 10 or so casts just move too a different spot until you find active fish. The last bit of advice I would give is that both lakes truly have some big catfish (50 lbs+) and Blue Springs lake has some good size hybrids in it (over 10 lbs). So keep your drag set light and be ready for a fight!!!
DMattR: Thanks for that information. I will try your suggestions. Are these the baits you also use for catfish or do you use a dough bait?
For smaller catfish I have caught more in Blue Springs lake than Lake Jacome. In both lakes if fishing for just numbers of catfish I have had the best luck with stink baits like Triple S or Catfish Charlie. If the water is real cool though then chicken livers work better. If it is really hot then fish the stink baits under a bobber and you will catch more too. If you are after quality size catfish and are less concerned about numbers then I would use either fresh live fish for bait or fresh cut bait. Both lakes have some really big fish in them but I personally had better luck catching bigger catfish out of Lake Jacomo. The key to finding consistent good big fish areas in lake Jacomo is to find places where there is shallow water with deeper water close by. Those spots are hard to find from the bank but with a little work you can figure it out. At Blue Springs lake it is really hard to beat the dam for consistent fishing. Also I forgot but to get fresh bait I often just caught small green sunfish at the rocky areas of the lakes. They are not hard to catch as both lakes are full of them. Just dangle a small crappie jig or cheap trout fly by a submerged rock and you are almost guaranteed to catch all the small sunfish you need.
Thanks so much. I wouldn't mind catching a good sized catfish. Last one I caught was 6 pounds and made two good meals.
Good luck too you!!! There are definitely plenty of catfish 6lb or bigger in both lakes including a good population of flathead catfish that get up in the 50 lb range.
