Getting into ultralight fishing. Northern Califorinia pond and stream trout, steelhead, to large mouth bass. Okuma Ceymar 10 reel and Daiwa presso 6'6" ultralight rod. Saw one guy who claimed to use Seaguar 4# STS fluorocarbon leader as main line. No additional leader line. Looked interesting. Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum, Tex50. I used to use it all of the time, no problems, except the expense. Now I just use it under Power Pro on all of my rods. Except the fly rods.
Did you ever throw top water baits and lures with it? Flys? Noticed it touts superior and quick sinking characteristics.

I use the fly rod for fly's. I haven't thrown any top water lures just small raps & small spinners for trout. Mostly, I will jig for walleye with it.

If you are using ULTRALIGHT why use a leader?
I spool the entire reel with 4 lb fluorocarbon
I use a 6ft St Croix Avid series and the combination of that line and rod make about the most sensitive and strength possible
I use fluorocarbon on my walleye rigs too!
Using only 6lb test it’s practically impossible to break off
I will be putting 3lb test fluorocarbon on my ultralight in spring
Lots of people use braided mainline then a fluorocarbon leader. Maybe because of the expense of fluorocarbon? My reel only takes 100 yd so fluorocarbon isn't too expensive.

I think braided and fluorocarbon are about the same price
I like a little stretch you get with the fluorocarbon plus it’s heavier so it casts better
And sinks better if you are jigging
I can get it spooled onto my Pflueger President for about $4 bucks
I also don’t use a leader on my ultralight 5’6” rod and a 1000 series reel. It has 4 lb test flourocarbon. Perfect for trout. I also don’t use leader on my 7 foot rod spooled with 6lb mono unless the rig I am using requires it (drop shot for example.)
