Ned rig question. Hook up ratio?

Here lately I’ve been using the ned rig finally, I’ve had a few fish come off right after setting the hook.

Is there a way to increase my hook up ratio? I keep the tension on it and continue reeling after setting the hook but I’ll still have at least two fish come off each trip it seems.

What kind of rod does everyone use for their finesse set ups? Mine is a medium light action Shakespeare rod from a combo I bought last year, cheap little set up but it’s been my “old faithful” go to and never had any issues with the reel after switching to better line.

Besides the zman brand jigheads, is there any others that works better? Anything more cost effective, something with more than 2-3 jigheads per pack?

Sometimes they just grab the plastic and hang on because it is soft so their teeth catch for a few seonds. I have landed panfish that were not hooked, just hanging on.

Use the smallest hooked jig you can get your hands on and really give it a good sweepset to make sure the hook is in.

Yea that might’ve been what happened, I was using the big TRD’s cause I was out of the smaller TRD’s. I’ll have to be careful though with a strong hook set on light line, the lake near me is pretty snaggy since the water is down about 2ft due to no rain all month.

Just cut your big TRD down. But sometimes you just lose a fish. It happens. Predators fail more than they succeed.

Sometimes it’s trial and error on hook size to plastic ratio.

Ned heads use light wire hooks, they penetrate VERY easily so if you set the hook like it's a 5/0 EWG your gonna tear a hole in the fishes mouth and make it super easy for them to throw it, try easing up a little bit.... just reel and lift the rod tip....
