Where does the knot go when you begin to spoil the reel?

That was probably confusing. What I meant was when you buy a new reel and have to spool it, does it matter where you begin to spool it?

So after I tie my initial knot onto the reel, do I have to slide it all the way down, in the middle, top?

I don’t know if I’m right, but i’ve been fishing for a few years and I never think about it. I think it doesn’t matter

I don’t think it matters, but personal preference I always start the line wherever the line guide is for casting reels and at whatever position the spool is for spinning reels. Regardless it should correct itself when you start reeling

I strongly feel it should be in the middle and covered with a tiny bit of electrician's tape, but on a spinning reel I do not think it actually matters either way.

I also don’t think it matters, they’ll all work just fine. I do as AtAll does on the bait casters. Just been doing it that way for nearly 70 years.

Just relined 2 spinning reels and the knot was in two different places. Both went on fine.

The first thing I do even before the knot is I wrap the spool with some black tape so that the line and the knot does not spin on the spool. The knot placement on the spool does not mater much as the line and knot will adjust and move itself as it wants to just by reeling in your line.

Don’t overthink it...it really doesn’t matter as long as your line lays down evenly without memory
