What do I bring on a 5-day fishing/hiking/camping trip in Yellowstone's outback with 5 or 6 guys, that'll surprise the guys and make me The Man?
We already pack in Whiskey we'll pour in to plastic bottles. probably in Billings.

Honestly, my suggestion, find out what the locals are saying as far as flies go. Take a box just stuffed with them. You'll be set.

I used to sneak stuff into the other guys' bags before we left so they'd end up carrying it without knowing. Then you stop somewhere and say "man, a beer sure sounds good right now" and when they remind you that you don't have any ask them to check their packs just in case.

Yeah, booze, weed, etc.
What about a surprise box of flies for each angler? Fill the box with patterns appropriate for the water(s) you are fishing. If I were in your friends' wading boots, I would be much happier with a box of flies than contraband.

Ask yourself what constitutes being The Man amongst your friends? The fishing, the drinking, the BS stories, or all three. Either way be yourself, enjoy nature and return it the way you found it.

Take the same stuff back out that you took in! And the empty bear 🐻 spray cans. Don’t buy the cheap bear spray, if it is under 50 bucks, stay home 🏠. And a REAL whistle! The type that blows the wax out of your ears 👂!!
