My Grandfather was a avid deep sea fisherman and he would take me out on the overnight boats boat would leave at 12 midnight from the Mariana he would take me 6 times a year.
I caught my 1st Yellowtail when I was ten year's old I belive it was 30lbs.
Love the Ocean.
I was a lucky kid to have a Grandfather like him.
I have all his Penn reels and they still look like new and I still use them.
Sorry got carried away.

Overnight trips on the ocean are something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. They are breathtaking.
Have a great and safe weekend my friend and good luck fishing with the young'uns.

I caught a 325 lb bluefin tuna with a ling under a bobber in NJ a long time ago. It took 3 hours and 45 minutes to reel in on 80 lb test line. The Penn International reel got so hot that you would burn your hand if you touched it. Not fun.

bands, on the charter boat I used to fish with my group, when that happened, a mate would pour a couple of gallons of water ( fresh ) over the reel as ya fought the fish, to save the drag components from a catastrophic failure. Worked I guess, cuz over the years, we boated some monsters, and never had a drag give up the ghost.

That’s what we did. Buckets of sea water saved the day.

Was lucky enough to get out and catch a nice bluefin Tuna earlier this week. Fished out of San Diego on the American Angler great boat with an amazing skipper and crew.

By chance did you weigh that beautiful tuna.
Looks like in the 75 lb class maybe more. Congrats.
