Took our little trailer to an RV park just south of Lone Pine for a few days. I had never fished anything south of Bishop before so thought this would be a good chance to check out that area. The snow run-off in all those little streams was really something. It made it almost impossible to fish because the brown water was running so fast it was really hard to find any pools. I did find one little pool (see photo) and pulled two rainbow and one brook out of there with only one 11 inch rainbow being a keeper (had it for supper that night).

The only good thing about all the dirt in the water was if you did find a pool you could fish it without having to drift your bait to it. There was not drifting with this kind of water flow. I started with salmon eggs thinking they could be better seen in the dirty water but they would nibble but not take it so I switched to baby night crawlers and that was the ticket.

Small stream fishing is what I am best at but had to use every trick to find anything in these conditions. I will be back when the flow rates get back closer to normal and think I’ll do just fine.

I am thinking I’ll head to Convict Lake the weekend after Memorial to go for some bigger fish. I’ll let you guys know how that goes if I can get up there. Tight lines all.

Great story of your outing and the challenging conditions. Glad you managed to locate a few hungry fish and enjoy your time at Convict lake this weekend. Jarheadfishnfool posted something a few days ago about the trophy sized trout that were stocked a short while ago!

I did take that Whitney Portal road all the up to the end and believe me, brother, there were virtually no pools the way the water was raging. Way to go with the close encounter with Jamie Lee.

Yep. That stocking is for their derby this Memorial Weekend. I hope to get up there the next weekend to beat the crowds. I just hope some of the big ones are left. I caught a 3 1/2 pounder there last year in mid-may but had a much bigger one snap my line. I'll be going up with fresh, higher test line this time.

I feel your pain bro... I met Pamela Anderson at the lake several years back. Wound up having to get an RO to put an end to her stalking me. It got to the point it was to embarrassing.
